Jack and Jill Shower

My take on this from my experience is they are 2 different things.

A Jack & Jill Shower, is like a regular bridal shower only men are invited too.

A Jack & Jill Party is like what Stinkerbell described. A hall is rented and a dj is hired. Food can be served(the ones Ive been to have had bowls of chips, pretzles, etc...)There is a cash bar at the hall which is typical for functions held there. Then family, friends, friends of friends, whoever, can buy tickets and attend. There can be raffles too. Any money made after everything is paid for goes to the bride & groom, usually for their honeymoon.

Hmmm maybe the ones you've been to, but if you read my post MY Jack & Jill party is very different from you describe. Not all are alike. Bottom line is that they are a party for Men and Women. The contents of the party vary. No one bought tickets to ours. There was an open bar, not cash bar. There was a full dinner, not chips and dips. I don't mean to sound snippy, but your post makes it sound like they are ALL like you described. I would never think of having one like you've been to.

Going to one next week end.
It will be at hall with music by a DJ, raffles, games and cash bar.

You dont sound snippy, and if you did, I dont see any reason to be. I posted my experience with the subject at hand. I never said anything about any party you have had. I believe I said "My take on this FROM MY EXPERIENCE". I never said this is what it is and there is no variation.

From what you describe it sounds like you had more of a J & J shower, than a J&J party...only going by what Im familiar with....which again, may or may not be what you call it or what you are familiar with.

FWIW, I didnt want or have a J&J party before my wedding, however the ones Ive been to have been a great time. Im always looking for a night out.

Do you ever have parties in honor of the bride and groom that do not require gifts?

When I lived in Texas and Louisiana it was very common to have a luncheon for the bride or a dinner for the bride and groom in their honor, but there were no presents. It was not a shower.

It was considered improper to have too many showers. So people that really wanted to do something for the couple would have a lunch (usually women only) or a couples dinner. No presents and no charges - just good wishes and fun.

It's a shower for the bride and groom, where both men and women are present.

Generally, the gifts range a little more toward household rather than female(ie-a set of glasses or bar ware rather than lingerie).

Many times, the men will register someplace too, such as Home Depot, for items needed to care for a house...rakes, shovels,etc.

I agree they can be quite different, and it often depends on where you live. After all, couple B goes to couple A's Jack & Jill and decide they want one just like it. But they obviously live in the same general geographical area. I've been to two, and both of them were in a hall, with a DJ and food, and yes, we bought tickets to attend and paid for our drinks at the bar. But we didn't bring presents, and neither couple had any other showers. They were more interested in money for a down payment on a house since both had lived on their own in apartments for awhile and had all the "stuff" they needed!
