I am NOT taking my big Canon 7D on our trip this year. It's too heavy and precious and I don't want to spend my time behind it and get sore shoulders from lugging it around. I've been 3 times before and taken SLR's so I have all the nice shots I need. This time I'm buying a little point and shoot, just to capture memories.

What Camera do you all like to take? Big or little?

canon 7d :)

but I see your point, it is heavy! I know if I don't take I will regret it.
if you have to go with a smaller camera, my favorite is Lumix LX5, great little camera!

Well I have never used anything fancier than a point and shoot but the last time I went on vacation I didn't even bother bringing a camera at all, I just used the camera that is on my cell phone. My cell phone's camera is actually pretty good so I was happy with the quality.

Ditto pp, if you have a decent camera on your phone skip a seperate camera. I have an iPhone and hardly ever take out my point and shoot anymore. BUT that said I really like the quality of Cannon in general over other cameras and have a cannon powershot.

Canon SD 1100 IS is my fav. point and shoot cam. Very small, and works great in the parks! :)

I take my little Lumix point-and-shoot. My sister's BF took his nice digital SLR. I guarantee you he got better picts than I did (haven't seen them yet); however, he only had that to lug around, while I had two little ones and a stroller. :)

As someone who repairs cameras for a living.... In the point and shoot range Samsung make the best cameras as this is their focus market...

7D & a Sony TX1

Look at the "Industry Disgrace Crumpler" neck strap for the 7D. I use it (with the additional battery pack) and have found it very comfortable.

I Have a beautiful camera that I am choosing to leave at home. I want to be 100% in the action (not hiding behind the lens). I'll have a cheapy one I'm not worried about loosing..getting wet...or stolen. :) We're going to play! :dance3:

Part of my vacation fun it taking pictures so I bring both and decide which one I want to use depending on the activities for the day.

I use a FujiFilm XP FinePix point and shoot. Its water proof, shock (drop) proof, dust proof and freeze proof. Easily fits in my pocket and at 12 mp takes really good pictures. Really good price at Amazon too.:thumbsup2

Thats funny. I just bought a new camera on friday and the people selling them said the Samsung did not have the quality of the others. We ended up with a Canon Powershot. We were looking at the Samsung dual screen...

I brought my point and shoot (a canon powershot) and my big canon dslr last time we went to DL. I only ended up using the dslr when we went to Napa Rose and at PCH Grill's character breakfast. I just didn't have a time when I wanted to bother lugging it around the parks with 3 kids in tow. Now if I'd had time to go to DL by myself for a few hours just for the fun of taking pictures, I would have, but it didn't happen.

The profit margins in the Canon tend to be a lot higher plus Canon do make really good cameras, just not in the point and shoot market...

The Canons tend to have fragile gearing mechanisms in the lens assembly, some models also suffer significant shutter lag... Canon has also had a lot of recalls with their CCD arrays, the good news is they tend to have extended warranties with this fault as opposed to the lens issue where even cameras in warranty can be refused as they say it is due to physical damage...

Samsung camera's are strong and image quality is as good as the Canon and typically 10 to 20% cheaper...

Fuji make good strong cameras as well, especially in the mid range price range...

I always seem to have a baby with me everytime I go. Baby bag full and stroller bottom carrier.

a little off topic but what exact model would suggest I buy for my trip in aug. Not lookign to spend a lot.

What? Cameras are not their focus market! Samsungs focus market is TVs, BluRay players, refrigerators, washers & dryers, cellphones, laptops and tablet PCs. If you want a good camera stick with a company that only makes cameras like Nikon, Canon, and FujiFilm.

And yet Samsung keep winning awards in the entry level cameras every year... Why? because they focus on this market and design camera specifically for this market... Canon and Nikons entry level cameras tend to be scaled back versions of their more expensive cameras and as such are problematic... I have been a mad photographer for over 25 years and when the first Samsungs came out I thought the same as you... Having seen how well they are made and work I am now a convert...

We pretty much only use our cell phone cameras anymore. It was fun to be able to post the pics to Facebook on the fly.
