Even if you have a route plan you need to be very careful as you near Paris (just after Charles De Gaulle airport). This is the transition from the A1 to the A104. You go off onto a slip road very early and that slip road has other slip roads coming off it - just make sure you don't end up heading West along the D170 which is the continuation of the A104 (but in the opposite direction). As long as you get on the A104 it's simple.
First time I drove I ended up doing the above

Luckily I had a map with me that eventually made sense of the road signs I was seeing and I eventually got back on course. Added 2 hours extra onto my journey though.
It is about 3 hours from Calais to Paris on a good run.
Don't forget to modify your headlights, take a spare set of bulbs and a warning triangle. Spare bulbs and a warning triangle are expected in case of problems (like a breakdown or broken bulb) and the police over there will not be happy if you don't have them.
I'm driving down in mid feb - but this time I've invested in a sat-nav with European maps. I've already preloaded the destinations and fuel stops as favourites and I keep running the route demo when I feel like getting excited.
Have fun
