Well after loosing over 5 stone over the last 18 months I have now joined a gym to start to tone. I went from 14 1/2 stone to 9 stone 2. I joined on monday and have been everyday this week, just up and getting ready to go this morning and believe me its a struggle. Its hard to get out of bed when its wet and dark.

So i will let you know how i get on over the next few weeks. I have bought a lovely tankini for the holiday and i need to tone by belly so it looks nice :)

Congratulations - that is amazing!

Don't "burn yourself out" (especially if you are not used to exercise). Our bodies/muscles need rest to recover (the newer you are to exercise, the more recovery time you need....). Every other day (four times a week) would be fabulous.

Going to the gym is hopefully a "sustainable lifestyle change" - so you don't want to pour your body and heart into it for the next few weeks and then never want to go again...

Have you been assessed by a gym instructor? Did they assess your goals and give you a programme or two follow?

The most important thing with exercise is variety. Our bodies adapt very quickly - so to keep fit and toned we need to confuse our bodies by regularly changing our gym programmes. That is how you get the most "effective" results.

To add to variety and motivation, I also recommend exercise classes: having other people doing the same things can spur you on. If toning/stomach are amongst your primary goals, then "gymball" ("swiss ball"/"fit ball") classes arre EXTREMELY good (very effective!).

Brilliant, well done :thumbsup2 I have never been to a gym in my life :blush: I do a lot of walking every day though, so I always tell myself that I am doing some exercise :)
 
Wow 5 stone that is fantastic!!! I think you should give the rest of us some diet tips!! Good luck at the gym. :cool1:

I recently joined a gym, thought I would hate going but I actually enjoy it! I always thought I was fit because I walk about 4 miles a day but I soon realised I wasn't quite as fit as I thought I was! :rotfl:

Whenever it gets tough, just picture yourself in that tankini! :goodvibes
