I've got problems

We bought in March and so far I have blasted through all of this years points and only have 9 left for 2005. At this rate we will have to add on without owning for a year even YIKES!

Who else is in a permenant state of borrowing?

I am!!! I'm using 06 points for my April 05 trip. I've been in this state for 3 trips i think!

IMHO, always being short on points is the way to go. Use 'em or lose 'em. If you need more, either borrow or rent. But at least you will not have wasted your money. So congratulations are in order!

That's absolutely right! Keeps me from having to worry about banking deadlines and all that too! In the end, I am really only denying myself the very last year of the contract. I'm pretty sure by then I will be in a nursing home (or worse!)

I think this would be an interesting poll, How many members constantly borrow points?
I know we do! even with adding on, there is never enough points, is there?

We now own 425 points after 3 add-ons and are still in a constant state of borrowing. Our most recent add-on was in August, 150 at BWV, and even that contract might end up fully borrowed. We rented the 2005 points, used the banked 2004 points for our June ressie, and might borrow all 2006 points if an Aruba trade for next November comes through. Oh well, I guess I'm using them right!! I'll probably be adding on again in the near future!!!!

Another way to look at it is instead of your contract running out in 50 years, it will run out in 49. By then, it won't matter.

We have 4 points left for 2005.

I think borrowing is the way to go in case there is a year when we can't go, then we won't lose points.

I don't care that I won't have points in 2042.

Stephanie...maybe it's time to think about an add-on? We, too, are always in the borrowing mode. We have been on the prowl for the "perfect" add-on. We splurged on our upcoming trip in March...we are getting a 2 bedroom! I know we we be spoiled and will unlikely go back to a 1 br.

For me, it makes sense to always borrow as far ahead as they will let me.
I figure that there is a reasonable probability that I will not be alive the last year of my membership, so there is no point in my saving any points for that year.

The only downside I see, to borrowing, is that it is not reversible, and plans sometimes need to change.
I would not borrow my 2006 points, to use the last month of my 2005 use year. The risks are too high.
But I don't mind borrowing my 2006 points to use during the first 8 months of my 2005 use year.

Maybe DVC is counting on so many people borrowing that they are not worried about the last year before the contract ends and being able to accommodate everyone's points???

hhhmmmm, you have me thinking that maybe borrowing is not a bad thing!
Never have done it Like to live within our means as far as DVC but since we are getting AP for our next trip maybe we'll borrow to squeeze in a trip then take a year off. There are other places to go besides Disney right? Was that just sacrilege?
