Yet another reason to not try to live in a house that's going through a major renovation:eek: DH didn't think it was a big deal that we've just had plastic over where the windows should be in the addition:rolleyes: Of course, he's going to a football game, and leaving me to deal with the squirrel , because "the cat will get it sometime" Help!!!

Happened to me twice and it cost me 1000.00 ea time to get rid of the darn things. As to the cat, do you really want to chance your cat getting rabies? Figures your husband would say something like that mine was the same way. It was torture. I live in a 15rm Victorian and they got in up under the eaves. Of couse the first thing every contractor or service person says is, " wow that is a big house." IF your house is not that big it might not be so bad to get rid of them.

We had flying squirrels in our kitchen wall. It cost us like $300 to the exterminator to get rid of them. Not fun.

Just lay out some nuts in a cat carrier and watch it, when he goes in, close the door QUICKLY and take it outside. Or call the SPCA or the Game Commissioner.

You should call a pro. Squirrels can carry diseases. A friend of mine was bitten by one once, and had to go thru rabies shots. We had them in the attic of our last house; they ate through the chicken wire covered vent to get in! Nasty little rodents.

It's still in the house -I've closed the doors to the upstairs, DH doesn't think it's that big a deal:eek: I've got my daughter upstairs in her room........................

I did a thread on this last fall I think. We too thought we had squirrels in the attic. We got a have a heart trap but never caught anything, dh spread rat poison too. (Not something I wanted to do). Most of the people said to get the have a heart trap and someone mentioned silver fox urine. We asked some guy dh knows and he said he had some red fox urine, but we didnt try it, Good luck and say goobye to the critters!! Get rid of it asap, someguy who was a fireman responded to the thread and said they can chew right through the electrical wires etc. A real fire hazard.

Call the Humane Society or SPCA. I don't know if they will charge, but give it a try. Many years ago, we had a squirrel in our basement. My mother called the Humane Society and they advised to lay a trail of bread pieces or crackers with peanut butter leading to an open door or window. Well, it worked. The peanut butter trail was gone the next day and no trace of the squirrel. Or course, you run the risk of it working the opposite direction--that is, a squirrel will follow the trail in to your house, then you have two!

the squirrel is still here, although we have it blocked in one room with a window open. it's a really tiny red squirrel that's been able to squeeze behind things so we can't get to it. It figures it's the same squirrel that's been eating the tomatoes off my deck planters all summer:rolleyes:

Wow- watch out - squirrels can be vicious. One time growing up my dad picked up a frozen squirrel (he was like a popsicle- or in this case a squirrelsicle) We put him in a cage and when he thawed out he was acting like a rabid dog and tried to attack us through the bars before we were able to let him loose. I never looked at squirrels the same way. Everytime I see Chip and Dale at WDW I am reminded of that event. (Yes I know they are chipmunks, but it's still a small furry creature with a bushy tail.!)

Hope the squirrel breaks out of your house soon!

A guy at my job had one a few weeks ago...he and his wife woke up to noise above their bed..they turned on the lights and a squirrel was eating a hole through the sheetrock ceiling right over their bed! They went out in the garage and slept the rest of the night in their van and called an exterminator in the morning, it cost them hundreds of dollars to get rid of that thing!

They are not something you want to play around with, they can be vicious. I can't believe your DH thought it was no big deal with your daughter in the house. My son had to get rabies vaccine, it was not fun.

When my oldest was about 5 months I came home one day to find a baby squirrel sitting on top of my beds headboard. I had passed the cats in the living room and they were just laying around like nothing was up. Closed the Bedroom door and took off to my parent's house on the other side of town. Called DH at work and told him he had to come home and get it out of there. Well after a while I get a call from DH saying I must have imagined it, there was nothing there, as I'm talking to him, telling him it was real, he finally sees it under the bed, they are eye to eye, guess i'm not crazy afterall. After about an hour chase, including moving the stove he gets it out. Lets it go outside. Well the little critter had a good memory, and the next time I went down to do the wash in the basement there he is. Dh finally figured out he was coming down the chase from the attic. (we were first floor of two family) Put some expanding foam in there and we were as good as gold. No more visits from our squirrel friend.

Had a squirrel in the basement last winter, went to home depot, got the have a heart trap and caught him in about two hours. They can do unbelievable amounts of damage. From the time we realized he was there til we got him out was about 3- 4 hrs. He managed to wreck the work shop, poop on the laundry, pull the curtains off the window and chew up some brand new wood moulding that was to be put up in the dining room. What a nightmare. We never did figure out how he got in.

Don't remind me. When I was taking care of my Mom's house while she was away, a squirrel got in her house. It was a disaster! I thought I'd never get it out.
