About a month ago we found out a mouse was living in my closet. No problem...I laid down some moth balls, mouse gone, problem solved.

Not quite...
We just came back from WDW to find a stockpile of dog food and droppings under the stove. I can't even figure out how they're getting in! Besides calling an exterminater, how do you get rid of mice?
Help!!!

Many ways to rid the mice.

You can put poison down that they will eat & die - bad part is if they die in your house, it will stink.

You can trap them with either with live traps or kill traps - bad part is you will have to remove them once trapped. Live traps are nice if you have pets that may get accidently caught in a kill trap.

We got permanently and humanely rid of our mice that kept coming back to stay in our house each winter and last winter was our first 'mouse free' season! :cool1:

we got an electronic mouse repellent. It is a device you plug into an outlet in your home. (we plugged it into the kitchen since that is where they were going the most) although it works quite a distance and it makes a high pitched electronic noise that sounds like a jack hammer to a mouse's ear but we cannot hear it (or our cat).

You have to get one like this one where the signal changes frequently or the mouse will get used to the noise and tune it out.

It worked completely. A mouse trap might catch one mouse (our cat caught 2 mice but there were more than that) but this device will get rid of ALL of them!! :thumbsup2

I bought those electronic mouse repellents, and the mouse left his poop right in front of it - I guess to show me what a piece of junk I bought. Although it wasn't the same one as the previous poster mentioned. I had to buy D-Con poison and have my DH pick up the dead ones. And also try and find the holes they are coming in and plug them up.

I have a serious rodent phobia. I mean I know that mice won't come and nibble on my face while I'm sleeping...but that's exactly what they're gonna do...kind of phobia. True story....DH was out of town. I was 4 months pregnant. Heard some skittering in the kitchen, went, flipped on the light, saw about 6 of the little darlings in there at 2 a.m. I flipped off the light, ran to the bedroom, picked up clothes, toothbrush, purse and dog and left the house and went and slept at my mom and dads!

I called a place called "Critter Control." They came in, found how the mice were getting in, plugged up the holes, set out these little black boxes, came back in a week and I never saw another mouse in my house again!

And yes, I loved with my mom and dad until DH got back into town (which is when Critter Control came back). That weekend I made him work with me to scrub the house top to bottom (moving the stove, fridge, dishwasher, etc.)

Yes, I know I have a serious phobia...(kinda like Indy Jones with snakes)!

You never have just 1 mouse. Never.

Old fashioned wooden snap traps baited with peanut butter. Set out several. You should catch several in just the first day. Sometimes even just in hours. Attic & basement too.

I don't use poison because if you've ever smelled a dead mouse in your walls, you'll never ever forget the smell and you'll never want to live with that smell again for days.

I've bought the peppermint oil from a health food store, but haven't gotten around to putting it out on cotton balls yet were they come in. I have an idea where they were coming in, but not exactly where yet.

I know and judging by the size of the droppings they're a step away from a rat :scared1:

I thought about a cat but we're all allergic :sad2: I wish I could find where they're coming in. I picked up some traps today...I hope my dog doesn't get her nose stuck in one

Good news is once they set off a trap they will never go near it again.;)

I hate mice....bleeck.

Put the traps is places inaccessable to your dog. The mice will find them without a problem.:thumbsup2

Every year we get some mice. I put out 2 traps right next to each other and am still amazed when I see them both 'occupied'. I can see mouse #1 getting fooled, but what does mouse #2 think when he arrives on the scene. "Hey Hubie, that's some good smellin' peanut butter.......Hubie?.... HUBIE??....jerk......SNAP.":scared1:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Cute as can be (outside where they belong, that is) but not the smartest creature.

Several years ago when I still lived with my parents we had a mouse problem after years of none. We had several mice in the house -- it was so gross and left me feeling violated. We caught about 3-4 mice with those sticky pads but knew there were a few more. Shortly after capturing all mice we could, we rescued a kitty and kid you not, not a single mouse has been in that house! Cats are also really great at killing bugs and flies. :wizard:

BTDT! I have a serious phobia as well. We had one last year and I went nuts! I spent all kinds of $$ on poison, traps, spackle, etc. I was waging WAR against the nasty critter. I WON! Within hours. LOL Still don't know how it even got in b/c my mom mouse proofed the house and she has issues like me. But I super mouse proofed it, I HOPE! We'll see this year. Oh, and we only had one. I had traps & poison everywhere, but no other mice to be found.

My mice must be related to your mice. Yes, 2 traps near each other & more times than not, both are occupied. October seems to be moving in season here. We haven't caught any more months, so I'm hoping they are all gone & have moved out for good.

Owning a cat is not a guarantee that you won't have mice.

Neighbors got a new kitty and she seems to be doing a really nice job of taking care of mice, moles & chipmunks. I'm hoping they've moved on for good. :goodvibes
