We have stayed in both studios 1 beds and last year because we brought the MIL along 2 bed. We both prefer the 1 bed to a studio but can manage fine in a studio though I would have reservations if there was more than just the two of us.
I am not so sure the main bed is a uk king size in a studio, I thought it was only a double, I know we tend to spend the night kicking each other in it as we have a superking bed at home, mainly my fault as when I am asleep I behave a bit like the tasmanian devil spinning around, it wouldnt be the first time if I wake up the wrong way round or sideways in a bed which can cause the odd cross word from the DW.

As from the size and luxury of a 1 bed against the studio the 1 bed is far nicer if you spend quite a bit of time in the room, which myself and the wife do. Next year in our feb holiday we are in a studio for a week at Bay Lake, this leaves us with enough points for a 1 bed in the summer, we havent decided on which resort as yet. We find that if we are there in summer we do spend quite a bit more time in the room mainly because of the heat in the afternoon and to lay around in the room whirlpool bath is rather nice.
To be honest I wish they did another room catergory without the kitchen but with all the other facilities and size of a 1 bed for a few less points or less cash for none DVC members, like many we never use anything in the kitchen other than the fridge, in all our visits for all I know the oven might not have even been wired up.
I cannot understand why they have never thought of this option given the popularity of the dining plans.

I wonder how much they are used, in all the years we have been going I have never touched an oven or hob. Even the microwave I can only recall a couple of bags of popcorn until this August, the new coffee makers don't heat the water enough for us so had to give the water a blast.
So another cat between would work for us also.

I use the mircowave and toaster I am going to cook next time we are there for 2 weeks as well. Go over to the DVC boards loads of people cook.

I would also never buy the DP - just not worth it.

Couldn't do that, almost every fire dept in the UK has it on their website not to leave washers on while out. In 2006 in the US there were 17,700 fires attributed to dryers or washers(or a combo) which resulted in 15 civilian deaths, 360 civilian injuries, $194 million in direct property damage.

Better tell Disney then as the housekeepers leave the dishwashers running in the villas

I also do it at home with washer, dryer and slow cooker never thought twice

We stayed in a studio 2010 at OKW and have booked a studio again for 2012.

3 of us - my daughter is 5.

You get 2 UK king sized beds in a studio and the kitchenette area - microwave, toaster, coffee pot, fridge(with a little freezer bit) ironng board etc. Bathroom is a decent size. There is also a table and 2 chairs.

We thought we would sit on the balcony whilst DD went to sleep but in reality we all went to bed more or less the same time (we tend to have a break and a swim in the pool in the afternoon)

We stayed in a condo this time - sat on settee about twice. Didn't use cooker or dishwasher - just fridge and toaster.

Laundry room is free at OKW. As only studios use it it was never busy - only saw one other person in there.

There are laundry room nr all the pools.

30 mins to wash, 30 mins to dry. I used them alot. Either in the afternoon when we were in the pool or sometimes at night would pop down.

We were in block 42 turtle pond - will be asking for that area again found it very handy for pool/laundry and snack bar for mug refills.

I tend to convert prices to dollars so $800 would cover dining tips and alot of spends or maybe a special treat like bibbidi boddidi boutique.

you have to take into account that although your food is paid for, you're going to have to leave a tip at table service restaurants.

If your budget is as tight as it seems, then this is a very important point. You will be paying money out in tips.

if you didn't take this into account when you were making your calculations, you may be in for a bit of a shock when you get there.

So I've slept on it, and now I'm thinking I really should have booked the studio rather than the one bed. £500 could buy lots of disney souvenirs.
Should I change? My daughters are 9 and 5. I'm sure we could manage in a studio.

Hi and what a difficult choice.

First question is, how much will it cost to amend the booking, if there's an amendment fee then this has to be taken into consideration?

We've stayed in both and for us it comes down to how long will we actually be in the room for, if we have Theme Park tickets and Disney Dining then not a lot.

And because you have both and it's your first trip then the amount of time you will be in your room and awake is quite minimal and possibly not worth the £500, especially if you're on a tight budget.

Most of the time spent in the resort will be getting ready to go to the parks and dining or relaxing around the pool or sleeping.

So although the 1-bed is luxury when compared to the studio is really only makes financial sense when you're having a relaxing vacation without the parks.

Think they are double no king size thinking about it.

At home we have a super king size. At OKW (or anywhere with 2 beds) I have to confess that DH and I have a bed each and DD picks who she is sharing with. As she is a Daddies girl she usually picks him so I have a bed to myself

Thanks, when I changed the booking I felt a huge sense of relief. I didn't think it was bothering me that much, but it obviously was.
Now to start planning.
