Does everyone know that if you get tagged you have to sit in the middle but me? :confused3

Yes, I knew that.

But we don't play "Duck, Duck, Goose" any more.

It's too risky.

Bird flu, you know . . . :lmao:

We've replaced it with the generic "Animal, Animal, Other Animal".

Yes, when I was little we called the center of the circle the "mush pot".

Hmm, how long before Duck Duck Goose is banned? Don't want the little children to feel left out if they aren't the Goose, and isn't a game that involves running unfair to the speed-challenged? ;)

Sit in the middle?? :confused3 I guess that makes 2 of us who played it wrong!

I thought if you made it back to your spot, you were safe. If you got tagged, you were it & the original person was supposed to take the seat. How do you play when everyone is in the middle??

Count me as another one that didn't know about sitting in the middle. We played it the way LadyBears describes it, only growing up in Minnesota, we called it "Duck, Duck, Grey Duck".

It was very creative - as you tapped the other kids on the head going around the circle, you'd say things like "purple duck, blue duck, grrr...een duck, pink duck, spotted duck, silly duck, ggg...oofy duck, GREY DUCK! And then take off running. With a little luck, you'd have distracted the Grey Duck kid with all the other names and get a good head start on getting back to your seat. ;)

Don't worry LadyBears -- you don't end up with everyone in the middle! There's only one person in the middle at a time. The person already in the middle goes back to the circle when a new person goes into the middle.

Yup. I got out of the circle when someone else was tagged. The kids told me I was chicken noodle soup - a neat trick considering we were all just a bunch of ducks and geese - no chickens!

:teeth:

I'm another one who never did the sit in the middle thing. The runner ran back to the chasee's spot and was safe. The chasee then became the person doing the tapping on the head. If you didn't get back you just did the tap on the head again.

That's how I played it. The only game we went in the middle was Farmer in the Dell.

We tried playing some of these games a while ago with some kids at a party. I have to say that children are pretty much sore losers these days LOL Even musical chairs became a full out brawl of children trying to get back to that last chair and pushing each other off of it.....what in the world!

I used to love playing duck duck goose though, and hopscotch and red rover.....:)

We didn't put anyone in the middle. I've never heard of that. Wonder if it depends on what part of the country you were in.

Right - what happens if everyone is sitting in the middle? The duck, duck'er just circles aorund them?

I played "wrong" too - but this way doesnt sound like much fun, at all. :teeth:

I never played with anyone in the middle either. I always played the same way Nancy did.

Well one time in band camp.....we were playing duck duck goose with 3 duckers because there was over 100 kids. Well 2 kids getting chased collided and one girl broke 2 ribs. So our Duck duck goose was banned.

This is the way we played it too.

You are only supposed to sit in the middle if the person you tagged actually catches you before you sit in his seat. If he catches you then you have to sit in the middle. Speaking of playground games does anyone remember Red Rover?

When someone else has to sit in the middle then you get back out.

Here's to playing the "wrong" way and enjoying yourself regardless!! The middle??? Nope!
