Well, dunno if anyone remembers those really elaborate plans I had last year for the back yard.....?
Know how much happened?
Yeah. None. LOL!
We planted those 4 azaleas in the back yard last year. We thought all 4 of them had died over the summer in the heat of the summer. Hmm. I think they got too much sun.
Well, imagine our surprised when two of those dead-looking sticks actually bloomed this year! I didn't get any pics because they were actually rather pathetic showings, but they *were* blooming. The other two were definitely gone.
But, seeing those blooming then seeing my mom's *beautiful* back yard got me going on the bug again this year. And having the iris bulbs I planted last year actually come up and *work* (gee, imagine that -- bulbs that actually bloom multiple years! My black thumb didn't kill them. LOL!) and even some of the fresia bloom again got me going some more.
So, what we've added this year (and yeah, I still have to get pics
)....
And it's all DH's fault, too. He told me to. LOL!!
Started with DH deciding he wanted to put some fresh mulch out around the base of our trees to make them look nicer. So that meant a trip to Home Depot.
Where I ended up picking up some mulch, 2 plumbagos to place in the front flowerbed along the entryway, and a couple of flowers for the front porch. Like... oh... let's see, 2 new geraniums (that one from the apartment is *still* alive, though I can't believe it. All it has are a couple of leaves and one occasional bloom, but it's still alive. But I wanted prettier geraniums) one in pink and one in a kind of pinky-fuschia-purple color. Not sure what you'd call it. Then a small begonia. Those never last long for me, but they're pretty while they last.
Then two *somethings* that of course weren't labeled. All I know is they're full sun, very pretty, and even DH really likes them. They're completely full of tiny flowers, one in pink and one in a kind of rusty orange and yellow, and they have leathery-like leaves. And they're pretty hardy, considering the pink one was unstable in its pot and kept falling over until I got a terra cotta pot to put it in. But in the process of falling over and over and over, it's kinda beaten up, but still looks healthy.
Anyway, that's the front yard.
Then over Easter weekend my mom and I picked up some roses for the back yard.
And I have some seeds I plan to plant shortly in those containers I had in the apartment. The containers were in the garage until a couple of weeks ago, so nothing's been growing in them since we moved into the house. But I'm ready to try again.
Let's see how long it'll take before I can kill all of these.
Of course, now I have more elaborate plans to put a cover over the back porch and have climbing vines and roses climbing up the posts and over the lattice roof of the porch, then a fence around our ugly thing in the back yard and have more climbing flowers on the fence, and fan trellises for the roses along the back fence, and still want to do that mini Japanese garden just off-set from the middle of the back yard, and still want a Texas Vital tree in the back corner, and next week on Earth Day I'll hopefully be able to get a free sapling to plant somewhere in our back yard, who knows what type (red maple is what my mom got a few years ago).
How much of those will actually happen.... who knows. But at least the Valentine rose will be potted and the other 3 roses will be planted probably this weekend. I haven't decided whether I want to *plant* the plumbago, or keep them as container plants in the front. When those start blooming, I'll get pictures. They're just barely starting to bloom now. But since I've been jealous of my mom's plumbago's for 4 years now, I decided it was worth trying them.
