Ivan alert...

Ummm....

Just chill out was in reference to those people who are concerned and worrying about WHEN to schedule their VACATIONS.

Not people who live in Florida.

I meant no offense to anybody.

It looks like Ivan may have changed course...looking at www.noaa.gov

I am sorry...but I don't know what path Charlie took though. I pray he just fizzles out...but hopefully he won't hit Florida again. There is only so much a state can take.

I know that 99.9% of the people on these boards care DEARLY about everyone in FL right now. Nobody is putting themselves above anyone else.

Those of us traveling are concerned that it might not be the appropriate time to travel to FL. I know that Disney will be ready for us, but will the rest of FL? I know I am just concerned whether or not there will be gas, food, and other necc. that FL residents will need first. Does this make sense?

Just concerned for the welfare of others, and also for the possibility that they might get hit again with another hurricane.

It makes a lot of sense to me Pumpkinfish, if we were planning to drive down rather than fly I'd be a lot more nervous about the actual travel part.

Getting to and from there isn't concerning me right now, even if we got delayed a couple of days coming home it wouldn't be the end of the the world for us. It's just safety of food, water, and shelter while down there that concern me.

If it looks safe to go, we plan to go. But anyone who chooses to reschedule instead of going during this rough time for FL should do what their heart tells them to.

We're still waiting and seeing at my house.

I do not know much about hurricanes, but I was looking at accuweather.com, and they have a map that shows that no hurricane that has been within 100 miles of Ivan's path has ever hit Florida. Hopefully history repeats itself. This appears to be a much smaller and faster moving storm. It is also weaker, right now, then Charley. Hopefully those impacted by this storm will not sustain as much damage as the other 2.

We are going to WDW on 9/25 - 10/2. Hope the storms take a break.

All I know is that on weather.com Ivan has a chance of hitting FL. Looks like it would be Mon when FL would begin feeling the affects IF he strikes. If. It;s a 50/50 shot in the dark IMHO. And yes, DH and I would already be on the road in FL by then.

Kepp prayin' everyone!!

(latest info on Ivan can be found at http://www.weather.com/maps/news/atlstorm9/projectedpath_large.html?from=tropupd )

pumpkinfish - we're due to travel and arrive at about the save time (Sunday). Although I'm flying and it looks like you're driving. I hope Ivan goes somewhere else!

Hurricane Ivan is currently following the same path that Charley was. You can go to www.orlandoweather.comwww.orlandoweather.com and click on their Atlantic Tracker. It opens in a new window and automatically launches the current track for Ivan. When that is done you can choose Charley's track from the pulldown menu and see how close these two different paths are. I'm certainly keeping an eye on this one.

I must admit that I feel sooooooo selfish worrying about my October Disney vacation when so many people's homes have been damaged.

I've talked to all of my friends in Florida and fortunately, no severe damage was done to any of their homes. There's lots of clean-up, but at least they still have roofs over their heads. I just can't believe there's a threat of yet another hurricane. Latest reports say it could hit Florida on Monday and unfortunately we're due to fly in Monday morning! We won't know what we're doing until Sunday at the earliest. This is just our vacation........my heart goes out to Floridians.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!! When will the madness end!?!?

I am so sick of all this terrible weather. I know that every day, there is severe weather SOMEWHERE in the world, but I am tired of all the hurricanes, I truly am.

lucky_bunni,
I hope you have a safe trip. Don't worry, I am doing enough praying for everyone on the boards to make Ivan blow away.

Boy...I can't wait to relax...

Does anyone know what the chances are that Ivan will actually hit Fl? I know the weather service does percents of likelihoods for landfalls, and I was wondering what it is for Ivan....

Here are some National Hurricane Center computer models. Obviously you never know where it is headed until it is knocking on the door:
