After so many people recommended me the "excellence" of iTunes, I tried it last night. There are major annoyances that I hope are just due to my lack of knowledge of this program.

1. My file names are ocassionally truncated if it's more than 36 characters. (not the ID3 tag, but the actual file name). The limitation on MusicMatch is 256 characters.

2. I can not custom-made the file name. It defaults to "songtitle.mp3". With MusicMatch I can choose "songtitle - artist - album title.mp" in any order and/or combination.

Not to bash iTunes... but for MP3 extraction and custom file naming flexibility, this program is much below Music Match... unless there are places where I can change these settings that I don't know about.

I'm confused why you want to rename the songs? I know on iTunes you can change the title that is showed when playing the song on the computer and iPod. I actually found iTunes to be so easy to use, straightforward and love how you can quickly buy songs or download podcasts.

I don't want to rename the title, I want to organize the naming scheme.

put it simply.

1. I want the option of more than 36 characters for the file name (not to be confused with track title, which is part of ID3 tag. Changing the title that's showed is part of ID3 tag, not file name).

2. I want to name the file as "track number - track title - artist.mp3" (up to 256 character as per Windows naming standard) whereas the only option on iTunes is "track number - track title.mp3" (limited to 36 characters only)

Are those options available on iTunes?

Also, since the ITMS only offers no file at 224/256/320 kbps MP3, I'm not interested in buying them anyway.

Podcast does not interest me... at least not yet. Between my work (which entails listening to a lot of yet-to-be-released music) and satellite radio, there is no time for me to listen to Podcast.

Since we're discussing iTunes (which I love, btw) I just want to let everyone know that my own podcast, Mouse Guest Weekly, is available from the iTunes podcast directory. We just released our latest show today spotlighting the Muppets.
