iTunes/iPod question

Anyone deal with using an iPod on multiple PCs?

I have a nano and someone has been admiring it. I'd like to give one as a gift. The biggest disappointment when opening something like that is that you have to say "thank you" and either set it aside or commit the next few hours to getting it charged and loaded.

I'd like to charge it and put some music on it for immediate enjoyment. I can just hook it to my computer and name it Friend's iPod. The trouble comes when it reaches its real home and is connected to a "new" PC. What will happen? I know there's some synching that tries to take place. My biggest concern is that it doesn't whack the music on the PC.

Has anyone used Anapod? Any tips to share?

DW and I have three iPods and two PCs. We use all Pods on both 'puters - no problem at all. We don't use any extra-software - just iTunes. Just switch off the automatic sync feature and BTW: As long as you're using iTunes your iPod can't transfer music onto a PC, so there's no danger of it causing havoc on your friend's computer.

Thanks for the assurance. I've been reluctant to load iTunes on my laptop for fear of losing something. Usually I just need it for charging on the road, but it would be nice to use the laptop as a jukebox.

Take the auto sync off before they plug it in.

Also if you have a mac and they have a PC it MUST be formatted on a PC first and then go onto a mac. Trust me, I learned the hard way! I have 25 gb of books, pics and music on my ipod (mac) and then I tried to add some books from my PC onto it, and I had to format my ipod plug it into the PC first and after that was done, plug it into the Mac. VERY time consuming.

iTunes offers to search your laptop/PC for mp3, sound files, etc upon installation. Make sure to say 'NO' as this search really sucks. All sound files like gamesounds, system sounds etc are then marked as 'Music' and shown in iTunes. This doesn't corrupt anything, but it is a major nuisance when your iTunes is littered with that stuff
