Itunes help? How do I make a wma file into an mp3 file?

I can't get a music file from my computer onto itunes. I hit "open with: Itunes" but it doesn't open. HELP. ETA: I need to know how to convert a wma file to mp3 file?

What I do is go to iTunes, click "File" and either select "add file to library" for a single song or "Add Folder to Library" for multiple songs.

I think it converts the songs automatically.
