For a myriad of reasons, I despise upright vacuum cleaners! That stated, I'd like to purchase a canister vacuum but not until I've heard yeas and nays, regarding brands, from fellow Dis'ers.

Thanks to all who respond!

if you have your own home, install a central vac system..... you won't regret it.

Here's another recommendation for the central vacuum system. My parents had one when I was in high school. It was GREAT! We only had to carry the hose and a very light attachment around the house. There were 4 or 5 outlets to plug into throughout the house.

Sebo from Germany. I purchased mine at a good vacuum store. Won't find them in chain stores.

I'll warn you, they ain't cheap. About $800

I also have central vac (about $1000), but find lugging the central vac hose up & down 3 flights of stairs to be too much on my back.

I have a Riccar canister vac, I got it a few weeks ago and LOVE it. I looked at the Miele but couldn't convince my husband to pay $1200 for a vacuum!
