It's your first EVER visit to MK.......would you rather...

Which is a better first WDW experience?

  • 8.05am Crystal Palace Reservation to see the park near empty?

  • Arriving long before rope drop to enjoy the opening ceremony?

Have an 8.05am reservation for Crystal Palace so your first ever walk down WDW Main Street is super quiet, and you can take a photo with Walt and Mickey and the castle before meeting Pooh and Friends?

OR

Get to the MK for 8.15ish and see the opening show before enjoy all of the rides?

Oh, and to explain I cannot decide this one, and I really want Jack (who's never been) to have a fab time!!!

definatly the rope drop - after 10 visits this still makes me cry (much to the boys embaresment), its true Disney Magic - I would still do the breakfast but the rope drop would be my first choice for a first timer every time

I have voted for Rope Drop, because waiting for the opening ceremony is really exciting. :cool1::cool1:

I have also now asked my son (16), and he agrees with rope drop, he stays for a little boy that would be much nicer!:goodvibes

I went for rope drop too. My reasoning is that seeing the park empty is more magical after seeing it full, so perhaps make the early ADR for later in the week. I think the opening ceremony would be a nice introduction to Jack's MK adventure!

Rope drop - I don't think you appreciate the tranquility of an empty park until you've experienced a full one... ;) So I'd go for the opening ceremony which is fab in it's own right and save the pre-park opening ADR for another time... :goodvibes

I agree with everyone else - rope drop! :thumbsup2

Thanks guys! Keep the votes coming!

It's so funny - I asked this ovr on the American board and I'm getting the exact opposite answer!

I'm loving the idea of opening ceremony this day, and the an early CP later in the trip.....

I also kinda worry I'll be so desperate to see the park I'll rush breakfast if we do it first morning....

Definitely rope drop, and I also vote for ferry over monorail! The atmosphere of MK at opening is electric and though an early breakfast ADR sounds nice I think i'd save that for a subsequent visit in the holiday :)

I voted Crystal Palace -- because I love, love, love that peaceful walk down Main St in the morning. I guess it would depend on how many days you will be there. Do you have a chance to do both? Can you catch rope drop on a different morning?

Either way, it'll be an awesome experience!

I would rather see rope drop - its a lovely show and I love the atmosphere :goodvibes

I voted rope drop too for Jack's first time ~ then book CP for another morning.

Funnily enough we have a morning ADR at Cinderella's Royal Table on our first full at MK but we will still be able to take in the rope drop and opening ceremony (our body clocks will still be UK time so why not take advantage of the early start) - we can't wait and couldn't think of a better way to start the holiday.

Anyways - voted for rope drop/opening ceremony.

I would go for rope drop, I love the opening ceremony :thumbsup2

I voted Crystal Palace.

Don't particularly like waiting for the rope drop, find it all a bit cramped.
Dunno why but feel like a sheep waiting to be herded into the field (a daft comparison I know) and then everyone runs off or walks really fast to get on the rides.
*Apologies if this opinion sounds a bit flat and miserable*

More uplifting comments:

Have never dined at CP but must be nice having a quiet Main Street to take photos especially, there is always someone in the way when I am trying to normally. :)

For a "First Ever" trip CP would be my choice.

Thanks SO much for all your input! I think we might go for opening ceremony the first day, and then CP the following week. :)

But here's another question for you all...

Could you guys help me with what happens at rope drop at MK?

Do you all wait for the ceremony, then when that happens you're allowed onto Main Street for like 30 mins and then rope drop happens to the different lands at like 9am? Or are you not allowed onto Main Street until 9?
