Its Yard Sale Season!!

Here in New England, yard sale season is in full swing. I mention this because not only are yard sales a great way to save money toward a trip to WDW, but you can get items FOR your trip very cheaply.

For example, my family and I spent five hours yard-saling this past Saturday. One of my best deals was a brand new Rubbermaid collapsible cooler for $2 -- it can easily hold a case of soda/pop or bottled water -- I had never seen one that big -- and will be packed for our upcoming trip in Nov. I also found a brand new Buzz sweatshirt for DS upcoming birthday for $3 and a small leather shoulder bag with many compartments for passes and such for use in the parks for $2...like a wallet on a string. I found several new needlepoint Pooh pillows for $1 each, in colors like rose, sage and blue. I also bought a working toaster for $1 to take, use and perhaps leave at ASMu. I found a nearly-new SS cotton shirt for DH for 50cents..in his hard-to-find size of XXL. I passed up alot of Disney-related items but I had to share with everyone that the deals are out there, even in a high-ticket area like Boston. The thrill of the hunt is half the fun!

I would be interested in hearing what others have found for their trips and/or Disney collections.

I hane not found any disney deals but am planning my yard sale for sept 21. I am hopingto get some extra spending money for our october disney trip. My husband thinks i am nuts but with 3 small children, I have lots to get rid of and hope to do well. I also noticed in the local newspaper, that there are lots more yard sales now then throughout the summer.

Just a piece of advice about your sale -- I noticed a lot of folks having yard sales are extremely organized this year -- everything is priced, hung up, arranged, sorted by holiday or category, cleaned up etc. Some folks had boxes of free items, others cut their prices without my asking. Alot of friendly competition out there, I guess.

I plan to have a sale this fall, too, using some of the tips from this board, but I find I save more money attending sales than I make by holding them.

We have never had a garage/yard sale, but are planning on one in the spring before we move.

My question is about pricing. We have some furniture, bikes, toys, as well as clothes, books, etc to sell.

What would be the going price for a Futon, about 3 years old, in good shape, with cover included?

We have a child's dresser and desk... was mine, but not in bad shape, could be painted to look like new, as well as a rectangular butcher block kitchen table with 4 matching chairs. Top of table has green stain, but could easily be refinished (just not by me...lol!) We have various kids games with all of the pieces. An outdoor playhouse... I actually got it 2nd hand, so I wouldn't expect much...it is probably 8 years old. A child's 14 inch bike, 2 26 inch beach cruiser bikes, and a 24 inch girls standard bike. DH is planning on getting them in working order before the sale. Have barely been ridden.

I am just looking at ballpark figures. Yard sales are pretty big in the spring around here, and many people spend their Saturday mornings looking for bargains. We live in a fairly new area, so the competition isn't as great.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have found the disney resort refillable mugs for 50cents. 3 so far. Even if i cant refill them i had a collection of them going already. But i think i will be able to use them, we are staying at Port Orleans and have 2 of their mugs and 1 Dixie Landings.
