Its Tough to be a Bug

I hate bugs, of all kinds, so I will never be doing this attraction. Even the thought of it freaks me out.

We took DD13 and DS10 (their ages then) to ITTBAB under duress. DD loves HM (wants to get married in the queue area), but DS is arachnaphobic, so we figured it would be great for her, exposure therapy for him.

We were wrong on both accounts.

Hours later I finally got both of them to stand in front of the entrance sign with angry faces and thumbs down, separately and together.

It made an awesome layout!

I personally loved it, as did DH. Oh, well, we can always go back when they are in college...

I love it. The 12 year olds hate it because they hate bugs. I blame myself for choosing to raise kids in the city.

How old is your son? Mine is 4. I noticed the signs outside that said it could be scary for small children and erroneously poo pooed that notion. I've been on the boards a lot and hadn't seen much talk about it. I did really love it but admit I felt bad for my son. That first bug that shoots out with a puff of air was a shock.

He's 3. He can be fearless and is usually willing to try anything, but it was just the sensation of the bugs running under his butt that did it. It caught him completely by surprise (it actually surprised all of us) and it freaked him out. I think he'll find it funny when he's older, but it's just something we'll have to skip for now. Oh well, there's still plenty of stuff to do in AK. :)

DH & I enjoy the show - but I will admit that at the end I scoot to the edge of my seat - just can't take the 'stings' :scared: I just 'endure' the scurrying of the 'mice' ( and what evers) around my feet! :rotfl:

My DD4 LOVES this show! It takes ALOT to scare her. The first time we did it, I was cringing bc I was unsure of how she would react. She LOVED it all (except the stink bug part-she HATES weird smells!)!

We were at AK late last week. We (my husband and me) absolutely LOVED this show. Our son got completely freaked out and my husband was so disappointed he had to take him out (mommy won that round). Anyone else love this or do most people think meh??

I thought is was a good show. Both of my kids do not like it. They went when they were younger and didn't like certain parts of it with the effects. Haven't done it since.

I don't have overly sensitive kids and my DS did it when he was 4 for the first time. We laughed and laughed at the end but then we don't make a big deal about something being scary. We tend to laugh but then again I didn't let him do Alien Encounter on that trip too (Yes, it was that long ago) and he was a pretty mature 4. I wouldn't have him do it if he was younger than that.

I still think it's funny as heck but I totally understand why it freaks out some other kids and it's best to judge your own child's ability to handle it.

And I still won't miss it but mostly because I just love wandering through the Tree of Life. It still takes my breath away.

My son hates the spiders.

Personally, I LOVE all the things they built around it -
the adds about the terminator and other movie knock-offs are great.

For some odd reason I can never explain, Beauty and the Bee's song really appeals to me. There was another they did as well I can't recall. I want more "bee" songs! I love them!

We love the show and never miss it--it has some great one-liners. However, I do think they down play the fear factor of the show. I don't think I've ever been when somebody hasn't had to take a frightened child out of there. And personally, I don't like the spiders. Scary stuff.

The only thing I don't like about It's Tough to be a Bug is if we get in there before the masses and we are directed to "move forward and fill in every available space" about 52 times through a lousy PA system. I don't do well in tight situations so my husband and I pick a spot out of the way and let everyone else crowd in.

But that being said, is everyone missing the point of the attraction? Of course there are bugs - it's right there in the attraction name! But do you realize how much bugs contribute to our lives?

That's something I'm so disappointed with some guests at Animal Kingdom. So interested in nothing but going from attraction to attraction and not getting the message of things. We HAVE to have bugs in our lives. And they are beneficial.

Well, my DD and I have been known to break out in a resounding rendition of "We're pollinators.... POLLINATORS!!" every time we see a bee.

This is an extremely clever attraction - I make sure to see it two or three times per trip. Yes, there's a lot of screaming - that's part of the fun. I can't ever remember seeing a traumatized child, but maybe that's just because I'm enjoying the show so much.

I love the movie a bug's life... but after I read the description of this "show".... its OUT. I can't stand bugs....

I love the show & it's a must-do for me, but have never gone to WDW with small children. I definitely wouldn't take a young child in it. I think Mickey's Philharmagic is a good test--if your child doesn't like those kind of effects/show, they most likely aren't going to enjoy Bug or Stitch.

I feel bad for the young kids who's parents miss all the signs/warnings stating what type of show it is (or they over-estimate their child's tolerance) & 3 minutes in they are crying or begging to leave.

I think part of the fun is the guests scraming & yelling along, but for the small children that probably feeds their fear more.

My favorite part of the attraction is when the cockroaches crawl through the seats. I love people jumping up; it is like watching the wave at a ball game. :rotfl2:
My dd rode on haunted mansion and totally freaked out. I had to peel her off the nearest tree that she wrapped herself around after dinosaur and she wouldn't even attempt the tower of terror. Of "It's Tough to be a Bug," she turned to me and said, "how could anyone be afraid of that ride."

Let me begin by saying I have a huge fear of bugs but oddly not spiders)

The first time we went to WDW I was 16 and my parents decided we were going to go on everthing. So I was coerced onto ITTBAB and sat between my parents who assured me that it was going to be ok and that there were tonnes of kids so it wouldn't be scary. Well they were WRONG!!! I cried like a baby and being stuck in the middle of the row I couldn't escape the torture that I was being subjected to :rotfl: Needless to say my 6 year old brother loved it and couldn't understand why i was crying.

These days I sit it out while the family ride but my bro still tries to get me in there!!!

Tbh I don't actually think its scary and if it was just a movie I could deal with it but the thought of bugs touching me, thats what did me in :crazy2:

I remember doing this back durign my trip in 2004. I would LOVE to do it again for our upcoming trip but my son will be just shy of 4 and I think it will be non-starter to even attempt to get him in there. Maybe when he's older, but no need to traumatize him on his first day at WDW, that would be a disaster!!!
