The weather will be very, very HOT and HUMID. Expect a thunderstorm every afternoon for an hour or so. :goodvibes

We'll also be there in Sept. :cool1:

This is our first time going in December...for those that have gone this time of year, do you really get a chance to enjoy the resort pools? I know they are heated, but if it's cold outside I'm not going in. Luckily the kids are old enough to go in and I can watch from the side...or better yet, make dh go in with them! I've heard the temps can range from quite chilly to 80's...I'll just have to keep checking the 10-day forecast I guess.

the kids swam every day the week of christmas. on christmas day, it was all day swimming. i think it depends on where you are coming from. we are in pennsylvania, so going from 20 degrees to high 70's, you better believe we were in the water. we were amused by those we saw with scarves at night. sorry to any of the floridians that i just insulted. i guess if you came here in december, you probably would not even venture outside in the foot of snow.

It actually depends on the year. We were in Disney early December 2005 & they had record cold - it was below freezing overnight for several days - with daytime highs only in the 50's. We wore our down parkas to Mickey's Christmas Party & Candlelight Processional. EVERYONE was in hats & gloves! I am also from PA & when we left to drive down to Florida it was in the teens. My Floridian sister told me to be prepared - that in December they got every kind of weather imaginable. I thought she was pulling my leg & was still relatively unprepared. Of course, the day we left to go home, the temps went back up to the 70's. :(

Thank you and that's what I was afraid of...looks like they changed their menu...oh well, off to find somewhere else for dinner that night.

If you've got your heart set on french onion soup, you can find it at Chefs de France in EPCOT. Or, if you're not wanting to go in a park that first night, it's also available at Grand Floridian Cafe or Shutters at CBR. :surfweb:

just back and had a great time!! stayed in bldg 18 which was great, 14 is the closest to main bldg etc... We loved everything for the most part,, we weren't crazy about the food court food, but we also weren't expecting much.... the magic cookie bar is yummo!!!!!! the bus service left something to be desired, but we got used to it in about 2 days... it was totally hit or miss no consistence at all as far as which stop got picked up or dropped off first... we stood most of the time and it took close to an hour to get there most days by the time the bus came... the ride itself was only about 20 min or so.
Just thought I would share our experience :)

oooooooo didn't know about Shutters - thanks for that. We just loved the atmosphere of the lounge and the yummy soup and cheese bites to snack on.

We just booked our trip for the end of Oct/early Nov. :cool1: in a POR standard room.

At the time of booking I requested AB, 1st floor. Now that I'm looking into it, I realize that I'd like to add on specific buildings to be closer to the main pool. Should I call now or wait until closer in to make my request more specific?

I see building 14 is considered a prime location. But should I just request building 14 or give a few backup choices too? I think we'd be happy with 15, 16, 18 or 27 too from what I've read on here. Our prime interests are proximity to the main pool and distance to a bus stop. My kids prefer the main pool (with the slide :woohoo: ) over one of the quiet pools.

ETA: Forgot to mention that I had to do a split reservation of 3 days and 2 days to save some money on the reservation (30% pin code for 3 days and AAA discount for 2 days). We want to maximize our chances of being able to stay in the same room for the whole 5 days. So maybe building 14 wouldn't be our best option since it is probably in high demand?

Thanks for any advice.

Fax POR about 5 days before your arrival and then call a day or two before with your requests. Remember though that it's just a request. :goodvibes

I realize it's only a request and there are no guarantees. That's why I'm wondering if we should give multiple options of buildings or not. I don't want to make it confusing with too many choices, but I'd like the most chances of getting one of our preferred options.

I had requested bldg 14 or 18 when I booked, I don't think they really look at those notes tho. I asked when checking in that I had requested 14/18 and they checked and said they only had 18 which was fine... I don't think faxing anything is going to increase your chances... It all has to do with supply and demand on checking in etc and time of day..... Good Luck tho..

allearsnet.com still shows these items on the menu:

Can you get the food from here to go or are children allowed(ages 14 & 11)? Thank you!

Hi all,

I tried asking this on the dining thread but got no responses, so I'm hoping one of the POR fans will be able to answer. Does River Roost still serve the french onion soup and garlic cheese bites? We loved it when we were there in 06 and we were going to make that our light dinner on our first night this year.

Thanks!

Ty

This may seem like a silly question, but does anyone remember where the bus stops are at the parks for POR?

Also at the arcade do you know how much the cards cost & how many points you get(I'm assuming this is like how Pop Century does theirs)?

Hmm, well I will find out in August! It does sound good :thumbsup2

I had seen that but unfortunately that was last updated in 2005  I know it was correct as well in 2006 when we were there, but lots has now changed.

Here's the map of the resort: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/port-riverside.htm The bus stops are labelled West Depot, North Depot, East Depot and Blue Bayou Platform and River Delta Platform. The last two are collectively known as South Depot.

As far as the arcade goes, I do know that you purchase points on a rechargeable card but I don't know the cost, sorry. :confused3
