I'm now unemployed :sad2:. After 16 years of working with a fun company I loved, they shut down yesterday. No severance or anything. Worst thing is that, after so long, these people felt like family. We'll try to stay in touch, but they are out of state. Resume is already set to go, but I'm not seeing too many local listings for accounting professionals in my area. WDW trip is still on for Sept at this point, as plane fare, etc is already paid. I just hope I can find something soon, as I have a DD in college. I really love to work, and am not looking forward to all this "free" time...

So sorry. I'm sure you'll work hard at finding a new job and land somewhere soon. Good luck!

I'm sorry!

In addition to looking at want ads, network! tell everyone you know, everyone your DH knows, everyone your kids know (they adults, I mean ;) ) that you are looking for work in X field. Sometimes positions in companies are not advertised, or you may be able to get an "in" before the ad hits the paper.

This is a pretty good site for job search: http://www.indeed.com

Let the college financial aid department know about the change in your financial picture. They may be able to offer some assistance.

The best jobs are not advertised but acquired by word of mouth. Start writing to every firm around, enclosing your resume. Let your friends look for you, too. It's not the time to keep your job loss to yourself. It's not your fault the business closed. With your skills, I'm sure you will find something soon.

Sorry to hear the news. I hope that you had some kind of warning that this was going to happen so that you could prepare yourself financially and emotionally. Here's hoping that you find something soon!

I'm glad your trip won't have to be cancelled. Good luck in finding another job you'll love. Lots of good suggestions here.

So Sorry! I feel for you as I am in same boat. (10yrs at work place) my entire department being outsourced - company wide. I'm thinking about getting out of this type work and making complete change (although I went to college for this). Found out last week and my last day is on 10th - the day we leave for Disney! :sad2: Good Luck to you! Hang in there!

Be sure to apply for Unemployment - sounds like you will surely qualify.

Sorry to hear this!

One idea to stay in touch with your co-workers...start a facebook group. Many of my former co-workers and I have kept in constant touch that way over the past few years.

I'm sorry to hear this. I'm also in the same boat. Except for me, I was working one Friday and at 1:30 in the afternoon, received an email that the company was out of business and we were all laid off immediately.

Someone told me that losing a job like this should be treated like the grieving process with death. Take the time to work through it.

So sorry to hear this :(. Sadly with the economy I've seen it happeneing a lot, I'm blessed to be my own boss and it's hard to see so many going through what you are. Keep your head up and like mentioned above, network with others to see what might be available yet not listed.
When one door closes another one opens and usually BETTER :)

I'm really sorry to hear this. I'd check with employment agencies in your area. I hire all of our accountants through agencies anymore because it's easier.

Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's wonderful to hear that you love to work.. I am sure another employer will be lucky to have you:) Good Luck to you:hug:

My son is looking for work so we've been checking Craigslist, etc. I was surprised by the number of jobs on our State employment site.

Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear this. My dad got laid off while I was in college (expensive private one with no financial aid). He got a new job 3 months later and stayed with them until he retired 15+ years later. Hang in there and you'll find something soon, too.

I also just recently became unemployed. Company cutbacks laid off 60 people. I got a small package so I'll have some money coming in for a few weeks. My head is still spinning.
On Monday I will update my resume and start the search to see what is out there.
My DD will be a freshman in college in the fall and she offered to wait a year in case I can't find a job soon. I want her to go and financial this year will be ok.

Everyone that is in my boat hang in there and things happen for a reason and we will all find a job soon.
