by those nasty cicada's!! there are tiny little holes all over my yard and their casings are stuck to everything. They sound like a cross between a stuck car alarm and a million weed wackers. When they come out of the shell they are the fugliest thing you've ever seen with big red eyes and huge wings. My dog has taken to eating them in between meals and they are using my pool as their own private resort!! 6 weeks of these things they are saying!!!!

They look like aliens don't they? This isn't our year for the big outbreak thank goodness, but I have seen a few around. They must be on vacation.

YUCK!
By the way, you know they are edible. Just fry and serve! (Insert Puking Smilie Here)

thought I was gonna read about the db people lol

Only a few more weeks and then you will have a very long break from the little darlings :)

This is funny,,

17 uses for cicadas

My fav:

9) Make money. Type in "cicada" or "Brood X" on eBay and you'll find plenty of would-be entrepreneurs selling the bugs. One seller, from Corydon, Ind., sold four dried, unmounted specimens for $21.50. Don't laugh - there were nine bidders. (Note: Make sure the bugs are dead: to ship live bugs, you need a permit from the U.S. Agriculture Department or you're violating the Plant Pest Act of 1957.)

someone want to alert the 'ebay your way to Disney' thread? This sounds like an opportunity to me :earsgirl:

I've been waiting in vain for them, and they never arrived. I'm on the map for their expected invasion. I have been told by friends that they have been seen about twenty miles north of me. So I may have to travel to find them! I really wanted pictures! :sunny:

I haven't seen them yet here in PA. What is really weird though is that I was weeding the gardens yesterday and something is really chowing down!!:earseek: Not only are many of the flowers and rose bushes in sorry shape....even the weeds are being eaten up!! Wonder if we're just a fast food restaurant on their trek!??!

Saw on the news, don't let your pets eat them, they can make them very sick!!

:(  :crazy2: :guilty: :scared: :worried: :scared1: :sad2:

I can't relate because we have non here in Indiana - but I am sorry to hear about this - what a bummer!!

Aren't they creepy!? We've had them for about two weeks now, and every day there are more. You can see hundreds of them swarming around inbetween the trees in my neighbors yard across the street. Thank goodness they like his trees better than ours! LOL My youngest daughter LOVES these things. She is always catching them. At any given time when she's outside, she's got one in her hand. Yuck! LOL They are really loud here too. Almost on the verge of being REALLY, REALLY annoying! I'm hoping they'll be gone in a couple of weeks. At least they're quiet at night! LOL

Jersey??? They're not comming to Long Island, are they? :earseek: I hate bugs, I won't leave the house if they come here! ;)

No cicadas here, at least not yet. However, if anyone is interested in some June bugs, we have plenty of those. They keep dying in our garage. :crazy2:

In the newspapaer here they were showing ways for people to cook and eat them saying they are very tasty (BLECH!!) They said they have a nutty type flavor but if you have a peanut allergy you shouldn't try them. I honestly don't know anyone who is going to try to eat them though.
They should be here on Long Island soon, I know all the local papers are writing about the upcoming invasion.

When I read the title to this thread I thought it was about being invaded by the debate board people!!

There's a little boy at my dd's school that got suspended for the day for eating 3 of them on the playground. Just picked them up and ate them. Said they were delicious! :crazy2: Of course that was the big news of the day! LOL

The dares have begun at my DS school too! Some of the kids are paying others to eat them!! $1 for the shell and $2 for the live bug!! EWWWW! I told my DS that if I found out that he ate one or god forbid, paid someone else to eat one he'd be on poop patrol for the rest of the summer and with all the bugs my dog is eating (she's more of a goat....eats EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING!) that's gonna be one gross job!!!

I am just downright tired of these cicadas, I have to say. We've been hit hard here in D.C. and I gotta say, they are just tiring to deal with! I walk to the Metro every day to get to and from work, and I am getting my work out dodging cicadas. Oh, and my youngest loves picking them up too so I'm constantly dodging his pleas to "just touch it Mommy, its really soft!"

I mean, its sort of neat and wicked creepy in a way - the sound they make, OMG, its like being smack dead in the center of a bad sci fi film - but enough is enough. I want my cicada free lifestyle back. :p
