It's Official! Tusker House turning into TS

I am stunned. That restaurant was always packed. Where else am I going to wait while my fastpass rolls around for the safari. They had the best green beans. I hope they keep those. Maybe it will be styled after Boma's, I hope. At least at the moment no characters. I don't need another Akershus.

I agree. Yet only breakfast is going to be a character meal according to wdwinfo.com. And maybe they will offer a variety food other than the "usual" Disney buffet fare? Hope that's not just wishful thinking on my part!

What am I going to do without the Kusafiri Bakery? That place had the best cinnamon rolls and cherry danish in all of WDW... I assume this means it is being taken away as well.

Tusker House is one of my favorite cs places in all of WDW. I'm sad to see it become a buffet restaurant. I hope to eat there one more time this summer before it closes.

NO, NO, NO!!!!!! This is my favorite CS hands down in the whole World. Best food, best bang for your buck, you name it. I can't for the life of me figure out why they are doing this. I hope they keep the green beans as well. They are great.

Sad to see the Tusker House go as well...we always eat lunch there in Animal Kingdom, it's one of our favorite CS. Now we have to find somewhere else to eat lunch in AK.....

Yet another buffet. The rotis. chicken and original carrot cake was a great meal at a very reasonable price. A lot of delicious food for 11.59. I know it's possible these items will be on the buffet menu--but that meal was plenty of food, I don't need a bigger selection at what I'm sure will be a much increased price! Very, very disappointing!!

I am not so sure a non-character L and D buffet in AK is a bad idea. Yak and Yeti is due to be Asian food, and there is the RFC, but that's it at AK. Even if it **is** characterized, I think it is a good idea. As far as the food goes, it would have been nice to not have to take out TH to build it, but I would be surprised if the beloved salmon, chicken and green beans weren't there. Among many other choices, and for $20 - $30 pp, instead of the $10 range, ofcourse

My DS9 was very disappointed when I told him the news. The Tusker House has always been his pick for lunch. He loves the Chicken Sandwich. It was the only place we ever ate for lunch at AK. While I agree that AK needs more sit-down restaurants, we usually do not pick the buffets.

I've never eaten at Tusker House, this will only be my 2nd trip to WDW, so don't flame ....but I'm actually disappointed that there won't be characters at lunch and dinner. When the rumors started I was hoping for a different character meal with some of the lion king/jungle book type characters. I just asked my kids if they wanted to give up WCC to eat at Donald's breakfast (we did this last year on our 1st trip) and they said no. We enjoyed it last year, but we decided to do all new restaurants this year. Changing it from a dinosaur theme to a safari theme wasn't enough to interest them.

Tusker House was my favorite CS restaurant in any of the parks. I'm very sorry to hear it's going away in its current form, especially for such a mediocre alternative. I wish they'd just build an additional restaurant instead of taking away a quality choice.

Well, crap! I just mentioned to DD today that we had to make sure to eat there next Saturday for lunch. I'm glad now that I planned that, I'm also a fan of the salmon, hate to see this place change. It was very good for a CS place, hate the thought of another $20+ per person lunch establishment!

This announcement was actually rumored on this board about 6 months ago. That thread got a lot of attention as the source of the rumor was very reliable.

Now that it has been announced I can be disappointed. I wonder if they will change the characters around a little. Maybe Donald, Jungle Book or Lion King characters since it will be in Africa.

I have never been but I was hoping to go in Sept Maybe they felt that it was popular and the food was good they could get away with charging more and having a sit down because there just aren't enough at AK?

Us, too!!! With the kids' chicken meal I always felt like DD got a fairly heathly meal over the mac and cheese and nuggets on the other menus. THIS SUCKS. Seriously. I dread telling DH.

Seems they're focusing on TS meals at AK ... what does that leave for CS besides Flame Tree and the Dino burger place back in Dinoland?

OK, here's DH's points:

1) Are they going to extend park hours past 5 p.m.? B/c most people want their big meal at dinner, not at lunch.
2) Why not Flame Tree? Because it's indoors?
3) This will curb out time at AK... we'll go until lunchtime, then PH to a park with better CS restaurants for lunch.
