It's Official - I'm an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention

I just got officially elected today to be an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention in New York. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/21/21_1_2.gif' border=0></a>

This will be a first for me, and I am very excited.

Wow, very cool! I was once elected the first runner up at an Elks Chili Cook-off in Driggs Idaho. That was a second place for me but I was still excited.

It means I missed the cut to be a voting delegate - actually I bowed out to let someone else who had been here longer go as a voting delegate. I've only lived here for 2 years although I did grow up here but I left after high school.

Every state gets a certain number of delegates and one alternate delegate for each delegate position. I will get to go to the convention and will have a seat with the Arkansas delegration on the floor.

I will get to be there for everything and get invited to all of the activities that the delegates do. If a delegate leaves the floor, an alternate moves up to their seat.

Today we also selected representatives to be on the rules, platform and other national committees. As an alternate I was not eligible to be on a committee but I could vote as to who would be on the committee.

I didn't know all that much about it myself until today. I will post more from New York.

Very cool! I was a delegate from MD eight years ago for the liberatarian party and it was a great experience. I can only imagine being one of the 'big two' is even better.

Everyone wears a lot of pins at these conventions. I think I will add my DIS button and a couple of WDW ones (especially the patriotic ones) and see if anyone notices.
