I remember reading this news story a few years ago. Hopefully, the poor cast members are no longer itching in their britches. For those who think they wash the bedspreads, I dunno..... :rolleyes1

Disney cast members no longer have to wear dirty underwear. Apparently those Mickey and Goofy suits come complete with a set of undergarments that the employee had to wear, and turn in at the end of the day to be laundered -- that was the plan, anyway. Turns out those undergarments weren't being washed thoroughly. "Some workers had complained about getting pubic lice and scabies. 'Things have been passed around,' said Gary Steverson, a stilt walker at Animal Kingdom. 'I know I don't want to share my tights and I don't want to share my underwear.'"

Goofy Underwear
In other Florida news, "union leaders for the workers who play Mickey Mouse and Cinderella at Walt Disney World have won an important concession: clean undergarments," the Associated Press reports. "Many of the characters have to wear Disney-issued jock straps, tights or bike shorts underneath their costumes because regular underwear bunches up and is noticeable. Each night, they turn in the undergarments with the rest of their costume before going home. They then pick up a different set the next day." Some Disney workers said they'd received dirty underwear and had gotten pubic lice or scabies.

Now, thanks to concessions won by Teamsters Local 385, they'll be assigned individual undergarments, which they'll be able to take home and launder themselves. Smartertimes.com notes (third item) that the New York Times ran the item as (pardon the pun) a "brief" .

EWW! Just the thought makes me less worried about the bedspreads.

That is so disgusting :crazy2: Ewww ewww ewww, can I say that enough times. That is so unsanitary. I'm glad to hear they chaged their policy.

There are not enough Ws in the world for how Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwy that is!

OK, I've sat here and shaken my head at a lot of posts, LOL, but this is the first one that made me scream "WHAAAT?" at my computer!! :scared:

Glad to hear it is no longer an issue...Ewwww is right!!

Wow. Disney never ceases to amaze... one of the cleanest AND dirtiest places I've ever been to... :rotfl2: All of my glorified childhood memories of Mickey Mouse just came to a screeching halt thanks to the picture in my mind of some guy inside wearing dirty underwear with an itch where the sun don't shine! :crazy2:
