5 more cool things about Animal Kingdom Lodge

• The African look is flawlessly consistent, from the side tables based on Bamileke stools to the Igbo ijele, a 16-foot mask in the lobby. A fire pit is where evening storytelling takes place.

• Three restaurants serve not only chicken tenders and pasta, but couscous salad, oxtail stew, beef-stuffed papaya, and America's largest selection of South African wines.

• When not ogling flamingos and sacred ibis, guests can shoot down the water slide into a 9,000-square-foot pool.

• Under a copperpod canopy tree just off the lobby, kids learn about animal behavior from the keepers of the resort's surrounding 33-acre savanna.

• A souvenir shop sells African market goods, such as Zulu baskets and Tanzanian carved animals, and very little in the way of mouse ears.

One of our favorite things was the night vision animal viewing! Very cool!!!!!

Hi Dis!

I'm looking to possibly have a 6'inch cake delivered to my room next week.

Does anyone know if the Tables in Wonderland discount can be applied to the special in-room cakes?? I believe I used the discount a few years ago at YC and WL but didn't know if that was still active as a discount.

Thanks!

You might try the Restaurant Board.

I agree, check on the restaurant board. There is a thread called cake chatters (or something like that). They have pictures, prices, how to order... Everything. I'd look for it and post a link, but I'm on my phone. Sorry!! :(

So I'm going to try to spend my 3-day weekend reading through this thread. In the meantime, we are trying to decide between AKL and WL for our 2013 trip. My DS has voted for AKL, DD is undecided, DH likes WL and I'm still on the fence, but leaning toward AKL.

Please tell me the reasons that you guys love AKL so I can sell my hubby on it. TIA!

....until I stayed at AKL, the WL was my favorite Dlx resort. The AKL is actually the 'baby brother' of WL - they were both designed by the same architect. While I love the fact that WL is situated near a lake, which offers all kinds of water activities, nothing beats waking up to see giraffes right outside your balcony every morning! It just depends on what kind of resort experience you want. If you want to be totally immersed in a faraway place, rich with other cultures, then AKL is the place for you. If you yearn to breathe in the clean crisp scent of those Pacific pines, well then, you belong at WL. If you just feel like you want to 'get away from it all', well both actually capture that spirit; AKL a little more so....personally, I like the food choices a little bit more at AKL, plus the fact that it doesn't share buses with any other resort, while buses [AND boats] run to and from Ft Wildeness, which can get annoying after a while.....good luck with your decision! :thumbsup2
