Well, I have managed to talk my DH into yet another WDW vacation...my tactics this year were a bit different, though. In years past, I have been known to whine, cry, pout, stomp my foot, and even use my DDs as emotional pawns to try to convince him that we really, absolutely must spend our vacation time with Mickey. This year, I did nothing. I waited...I kept up my daily visits to the DIS, but didn't rush in to tell him the "latest" news. I feigned disinterest in the newest WDW commercials. When other people asked about any upcoming plans, I would just say, "We're not going this year...DH wants to try somewhere new." Finally, one day as we are spending our quality time together wondering why anyone would watch whatever reality show we are watching at the time, he turns to me during a commercial and tells me, "I want to stay at the Wilderness Lodge again this trip." I play dumb..."But, honey, we don't have a trip planned to WDW this year." "Go plan it, but plan it at the Wilderness Lodge...and I want to get the dining plan...and I want to go fishing...and I want to..." Well, you get the picture. In case you don't, imagine a 5'3" slightly overweight 33 year old streaking out of bed because she realizes that it's 9:45 PM and that if she doesn't get ahold of CRO within the next 15 minutes he might change his mind before they open at 7 AM the next morning. I managed to get a room at the WL booked for our Spring Break with park hoppers and the dining plan that night and now my DH has gone back to "grumbling" about going back to WDW again. I personally think he secretly LOVES our trips (he sure did look awfully happy making all those memories with our children) but doesn't want to be known as a WDW lover. I'll fill you in on our cast of characters (and yes, they are characters) soon...I have to go finish cleaning out all the closets in the house (that and promising to go to Hawaii next year are part of the post-reservation deal I had to make with DH).

Okay, okay, for those of you who are paying close attention and keep track of such things, I know what you are thinking. You are wondering how in the world I was able to clean out all of my closets in such a record amount of time. Well, I could sell you a load of bunk about my new organization strategy that I plan on copyrighting and selling on the Home Shopping Network...or I could convince you that I only have one closet in my whole house...but I can't lie...Tinkerbell herself sprinkled some pixie dust around and I magically found myself sitting in front of my computer again. That silly fairy forgot to sprinkle it elsewhere, though, because my closets are still a huge mess!
So, here I am, kids fed, dog actually taking a nap and not bringing me his toy to throw over and over again (he's a lab with only about 6 thoughts on his mind: throw the ball, throw the ball, feed me, throw the ball, must swim, throw the ball), and my DH is at the firehouse for a meeting...plenty of time to sit down and introduce you to the players in our upcoming adventure.

DH a.k.a. Chief: a tall, handsome fellow who is overworked with running his business and serving as the 2nd Assistant Chief :firefight of our local volunteer fire department; wonderful father and husband; has enjoyed our trips to WDW but is ready to venture out into ~gasp~ other vacation territory; does not truly understand my obsession with the DIS and WDW.

DD9 soon-to-be 10 a.k.a. Boo: princess: a smart, follow-the-rules kinda gal; loves to read books in the fantasy genre and actually had a debate with her 3rd grade teacher last year about how fairy tales are not fiction; has such an active imagination that she freaks herself out on most "thrill" rides and refuses to do them; made my year when she emerged from the basement a few weeks ago telling me that she had done a load of laundry from start to finish because she knew I was busy; the perpetual family champ of just about any Disney trivia game we've played.

DD7...soon to be 8 a.k.a. Lou: princess: a smart, bend-the-rules kinda gal who reads on a 7th grade level but hardly ever reads; lover of coffee, brie, and escargot; old soul who is not easily fooled; has two speeds: full and off; will do just about anything at anytime; snores to beat the band; can hold her own in just about any conversation with just about anyone.

SIL1 a.k.a. Tumor: :joker: My closest friend (right behind my DH)...so close we say we're each other's tumors (so the nickname isn't as bad as it sounds...lol); preschool teacher working on getting her Master's; has the best sense of humor and we keep her around just for making us laugh...and the babysitting doesn't hurt, either; making her first on-site but second trip to WDW; glad that she doesn't have her deadbeat, Diet Coke drinking, visiting every bathroom in sight ex-husband in tow this time around.

SIL2 a.k.a. Eeyore :goodvibes we love her, she's awesome...she's Eeyore to the bone...lol...admitted worrywart who is an excellent mother to her DD and DS but doesn't give herself any credit; always there for you when you need her; has traveled with us to WDW three times before this trip and is definitely a big part of our WDW memories.

BIL a.k.a. Yes, Officer:::cop: just the guy you need to have around because he knows a little about everything, a police officer who surprised us all when he went from gagging just talking about changing a poo-poo diaper to changing one like an old pro; has also traveled with us twice before to WDW and has amazed us all with his ability to strip a turkey leg down to the bone.

DNiece a.k.a. Princess: princess: 2-year-old whirlwind who we can't wait to have see WDW this go-round (last time she was only like 6 months old), my biggest fan (she sees Lisa Loeb on t.v. and thinks its me); shows unbounded excitement at every turn; afraid of dogs; petrified of Santa Claus so we are praying to the Disney gods that she isn't also afraid of the characters.

DNephew a.k.a. Prince:  will be 11 months old; one of the happiest babies who should be a joy to introduce WDW to; ready to use his new teeth on a turkey leg like his dear ol' dad.

and last, and farthest from least, the force behind getting us all to the magic once again: Me!! a.k.a. hmmm...have to think of something clever here to call myself: :teacher: kindergarten teacher; lover of all things Disney; overplanner, overpacker, overseer of the family magic; would walk 50 miles while at WDW but drive around 15 minutes to get that parking space right by the door so I don't have to walk too far at home; loves the DIS because there are people there who don't need any further explaination about why WDW again

Whew! next installment: Hard Decisions: 24-hours in a RV vs. 3 hour flight

Wow IBIF, you must have lots of time on your hands....Cant wait till I see the next instalment...It sounds like your family puts the FUN in Dysfunction!

I followed you over here from the Teppanyaki post.....
Guess what?????????????? No really, guess........................

I AM A KINDERGARTEN TEACHER TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, we both have husbands that like to pretend they don't want to go and we both spend the better part of our days with children that do nothing but remind us of exactly why we like Disney.

Ooooh, I like you already!

And... oh yeah.. I have three daughters too! LOL

One is 6, one is 10 and one is 12 :)

Get out of town!! Wow! We do have a lot in common!! Yes, I do love that about being a kindergarten teacher...it's like never having to grow up...my own Neverland! :thumbsup2

Panotchr, I just noticed your "real" name is Kelly...GUESS WHAT.......

MY SISTER'S NAME IS.....

KELLY!!!!

I haven't seen or talked to her in years...long story...not what I would want for anyone, really...but wow! What a coinkydink!

So, now you know who we are and how I finagled another trip to my happy place...pixiedust:
Well, as soon as I made the reservation that fine, beautiful evening...my mind began whirring. We were having a family dinner at Eeyore's house that weekend...in fact, it was Princess's birthday:cheer2: ...and I couldn't wait to tell her that we were going to WDW again so that she could pester Yes, Officer to give up their yearly trip to Aruba to go with us and to tell Tumor that I wanted her to begin to find a way to afford to go, too. I also knew that our good friends and their two DSs would be there...they have been known to share some Beaches and Cream with us before, too...and was hoping that I could convince them to come along, too! I was planning on infecting all of them! Our friends decided to pass (too bad for them...ya'll don't know what you're missing...I have a direct line to the magic with my DIS friends!) but everyone else jumped aboard. :thumbsup2
The next topic after everyone booked their hotels (Chief, Boo, Lou, and I are staying at the WL and Eeyore, Yes, Officer, Princess, Prince, and Tumor are getting a 1BR at the WLV) was to determine justhow we were going to get down to FL. In the past, we have driven (once and only once...straight through from Long Island...said then "NEVER again") and flown. Me, being the orchestrator of the magic, started looking at airfare. This being November and our trip not until the end of March, I was thinking...no problem...good deals are out there to be found.
What I didn't anticipate was that it was going to be Spring Break all over the NE and that it was the week before Easter and that the airlines would be money-hungry vultures waiting to pick at our desparate-to-get-out-of-town bones...I was shocked at the prices! :scared:
So, we had a little pow-wow at another family meal where I told everyone the deal: we will pay through the nose to fly. Yes, Officer ::cop: had an idea  (he usually does! ;) ) and said he has a friend who owns an RV that we could borrow. Were we drinking? I don't remember...all I know is that the next thing I know we are all pumped up about getting in an aluminum box on wheels and driving the 20+ hours to FL together. It sounded like a good idea at the time.:drive:
Then I had the opportunity to spend a long weekend in an RV with my parents and reality hit me like a baseball bat: we were going to get to FL hating each other if we submitted ourselves to being confined in that small of a space for that amount of time...add in Tumor's constant neurotic fears about safety :scared: (I kept answering her questions about traveling without seatbelts while lying down and going to the bathroom while rolling and what if we get in an accident with my standard reply: Who cares?! We're going to Disney World!)...and thoughts of poor Princess and Prince being confined to carseats so long (I think Princess would spontaneously combust if she couldn't move around for so long...and Eeyore, being Eeyore, would worry about her moving around in the moving RV)...and the realization that I might have to take a turn driving the big aluminum box...and all of a sudden that RV trip wasn't looking so good.:sad2:
Chief :firefight finally brought us all back to reality when he came home from work one day, handed over the credit card, and said "Book a flight. I am not starting out my vacation being stressed. Find the best airfare you can and book it." Thank God for my cable modem...I had us booked on a JetBlue flight...oh, did I mention that I had to add on two nights to the trip in order to "save" some money on airfare (wha-wha-wha...I am so bad!!) and then had to break the news to the rest of the crew: We're flying!!:yay: :yay:
Called Eeyore, she sounded relieved then called Tumor, she sounded relieved. And within 24 hours, we all had airfare booked and were signed up for Magical Express.
Next installment: Planning our ADRs...we still aren't done YET?!

Panotchr, I just noticed your "real" name is Kelly...GUESS WHAT.......

MY SISTER'S NAME IS.....

KELLY!!!!

I haven't seen or talked to her in years...long story...not what I would want for anyone, really...but wow! What a coinkydink!

Okay now this is getting crazy. I say that coinkydink thing too! I just about died laughing when I read that. I think we need a little margarita with salt together :)

Kelly

Kelly, the list of similarities grows! I would love to have a little margarita with some salt about now!! We'll sit and chat about booger bubbles and shoe tying, DH who just don't get the DIS, and being the DM to little girls who grow up just too quickly!

:confused3 With this being my first pre-trip report and all, I am not sure what order I should put everything in...I wasn't as prepared at some of you by writing this all down ahead of time...and you can ask Chief or Tumor and they will both tell you that my storytelling can be a bit long-winded...Oh, well!

Planning the ADRs has been fun...especially when everyone leaves it all up to me! lol Really, this time it's been a breeze considering that I talked Chief into splurging on the concierge room since it will be our last trip  for a good long while. I have learned that when you pay the big bucks, the IPO staff will do all the arranging for you...you just have to let them know what you want to do. I have to give big props out to Lynne, Lisette, and Cara who have rolled with the punches of my obsessive-compulsive planning.

I gave everyone planning books for Christmas (the Unofficial Guides) and even treated myself to a Passporter imagining family planning sessions where we would sit around the table pouring over the books together, discussing where we would eat and when. Reality kicked me in the pants again, though, as I began to realize that memorizing WDW guide books was not the favorite pastime of the rest of my family.

Anyway, I started with a list of our "must-do" restaurants for our family of four (I say "must-do" because we are in a restaurant rut...we tend to eat at the same places every time in the name of "tradition"...it's like we are superstitious tourists: if we don't replicate the meals, the vacation will end in certain doom :scared: ). I let the family know that I have made the arrangements with the IPO for the four of us and they are welcome to join us or not...it's totally cool with me. Well, what do you think the response was?
"Oh, we want to go where you go..." They are much smarter than they look...they want to latch on to the magic I can lead them to!

So, about 50 e-mails later, we are all set...I hope! Here's where our stomachs will be satisfied this go-round: Whispering Canyon, Chef Mickey's, Cape May Cafe, San Angel Inn, Hoop De Doo, Sci-Fi, Concourse Steakhouse, and Raglan Road. We are also eating at CRT and Teppanyaki...but shhhh...only Tumor knows that! We just recently found out that the Teppanyaki rehab dates were changed and this is one of our most favorite traditions...nothing beats seeing the teppan chef making his onion volcano turn into a train with an enthusiastic "choo-choo"! Our DDs have eaten here at least once a year since they were 3 and 18 months old! So, as soon as I heard that they would be open, Lynne set it up! Can't wait to surprise them!

Now, I can't give away my really special magical surprise because Tumor has signed herself up for the DIS and it involves her, too...I will just have to say this: I'll tell you all when I come back, but I think it's going to be a good one! Hee Hee pixiedust:

So now our dining plans are set (unless someone changes their mind!) and now I have to plan our days out. I am a list-maker and a daily itinerary planner, but I do this for the good of us all...I don't want to hear that dead air as everyone looks at their park maps wondering where we should go next! I am flexible, yes...but without that backbone of a plan, we would spend the majority of our trip just looking at each other, waiting for someone to make a decision. So, it's off to creating my WDW folder/binder that will become our best friend. I'm soooo excited as I have our Magical Express tags/tickets that came in the mail the other day to put in the folder...our trip must be near!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Speaking of those Magical Express tickets...lol..I excitedly called everyone the other day to say ours had arrived and to ask if they got theirs...only to learn that they hadn't signed up for it YET!!! What am I going to do with these people?! :confused3 So, supposedly they called yesterday to make their arrangements and any castrosphe will be avoided.

You two are too funny! Can I get in on the excitement too? I'm not a real kindergarten teacher -- not during the week anyway -- but I am a kindergarten Sunday School teacher!! Does that count? I'm a SAHM and I teach a 3rd grade Literature Circle in my DS9's (soon to be 10) class!

We have our WDW trip planned for 4/18-4/28, staying at POP for 4 days and then off-property for 6 days. We have the DDP for the 4 days and parkhoppers for 8 days. We also have tickets for Sea World and Universal. When US closes early, my plan is to hop over to the World for a nighttime show. Once you get beyond 5 days or so, adding a couple more parkhopper days is pretty cheap. This is our 2nd trip to FL and I know our kids will want to do more than Disney (thought I can't for the life of me understand why!).

Our cast = DH, DS12, DS9 and me.

We were there 3 years ago and this will probably be our last trip. Makes me so sad to think that -- but I do understand that we need to go elsewhere too. Most of our vaca time and $$ is used visiting family as they are in the SW and on the east coast. We are smack dab in the middle of the country.

I am excited about the DDP! Truly though, for us I think 4 days will be enough. I have ADR's at Chef Mickey's (breakfast), Le Cellier, Mama Melrose Fantasmic pkg, and Sci Fi Drive In. A good mix of fab food and fun experiences for the ages of our kids.

Not sure about counter services yet. I want to be a little spontaneous while we are there since I don't know exactly when we'll be hungry or what attractions we'll be doing when (other than planning what days at what parks) ..... but I do want to get a decent value, so I will have a few menus in the backpack to look over when we feel the tummies grumbling. No sense picking up hot dogs when we can have something much better! Gotta love that DDP!

Deep down I know DH is looking forward to the trip --- but it's pretty deep down in there. I try to restrain my enthusiam, but it's tough! Sometimes it's easier to just put it out of my mind for now. I've been talking about wanting to go for close to a year, I think he finally just relented knowing it was inevitable.

Did I tell you that our boys don't know anything about the trip? For the sanity and well-being of each of us, it is better this way for now. School is most important and we don't need them daydreaming in class just yet! We are trying to hold out until April 1 -- April Fool's Day. Not sure just how we will spring the news, but we will come up with something fun. It will be just enough time to build the excitement and allow for time to do (hopefully most) of their school work prior to leaving. My 3rd grader's teacher already knows (sworn to secrecy!), but I have not told our 6th grader's teachers yet. At Middle School orientation, the principal said "If this is the year you just HAVE to go to WDW, then do it because it will become more difficult the older they get .....". So I took that as permission. :<) Both boys are excellent students, so it shouldn't be a problem.

The only thing I see hanging us up is our 3rd grader realizing he won't have perfect attendance this year. Probably sounds silly, but he has been working hard at it. Oh, well, he'll get over it!

Thanks for letting me release some of my excitement! I have one friend that knows, but I try not to talk too much about it. She really wants to go too, but hasn't been able to talk her DH into it yet. My mother knows too -- but I got "you're going there AGAIN?" from her .... so not a lot of WDW conversation to be had there.

Have a good day!!!

Honorary kindergarten teacher.....Maddie 2!

I really wanted to surprise my kids, but I cannot keep a secret like Disney. They know me too well. They would see my obsessive DIS checking and the like.

I like to have a "backbone" plan too. Our trip is in August and I already know the PLAN! :) I am certainly flexible, but I want to make sure we have our ADR's and we know what counter service we might like....... you know!

Well, I still have 5 months to obsess....

BTW.... that booger bubble thing owned me! I start telling my class that when they can tie their own shoes, I will give them a bell on their shoelace. Talk about motivation! I tell them the older kids will be so jealous to hear those bells. :)

Kelly, I LOVE that idea...bells on their shoelaces! I am working with them about 2X a week on shoe tying...taking it s-l-o-w-l-y...one little step at a time. I told them that I had heard that there are some 1st graders who don't know how to tie their shoes and if they give it their all, they just might beat out those stinky ol' 1st graders! lol

And Maddie2, as a SAHM, you are most definitely a teacher...and add to that your experience teaching Sunday school (I teach the 2nd grade class at our church so I know that you are teaching!) and your leading a literature circle for your DS's class....well, you most definitely can jump aboard!
I know what you mean about traveling to see family...I'm on the east coast and my parents are in OK...very hard at times (and definitely has it's plusses at others :thumbsup2 ). If we were to stay off-site again, (listen to me...delusional thinking...DH would cringe to know I am even muttering those words...:rotfl: ) I would agree with your thinking about going back to a Disney park in the evening. Good luck keeping the secret...I know I never could!!

Well, I got my closets cleaned out and found a bunch of stuff from previous trips stashed away! It was fun to take a trip down Memory Lane...I even found guide maps from all the parks! I put the most recent ones into my Disney Folder...I keep our hotel confirmation letter, Magic Express tags/info, airline stuff, menus for all the restaurants we have ADRs for, Park Hours, and our daily itineray in there...I thought they would be handy for really going overboard this year and planning out which rides we should do in what order. I am going to create my own touring plan!

I'm visiting with Tumor and find it interesting that she didn't get the full experience of WDW last time she went. Of course, we stayed off-property at a rental house (scored big time when Expedia published a rate of $26 a night for a 5 BR pool home in Davenport and had to honor the rate :yay: ) and she had her no-good ex-husband in tow. She doesn't remember seeing any characters, and only remembers ITTBAB and the safari in AK, went on Alien Invasion, Space Mountain, IASW, POC in MK....oh, is this trip gonna be fun! I am having more fun trying to create magic for her and Princess and Prince than anything else! If they are indoctrinated with the WDW obsession, then I will have more people on my side to overpower my DH's Disney Negativity! Wa Wa Wa

Anyway, I'm in the process of updating all my menus for the folder and laying out the touring plan...all excuses to spend more time on the DIS getting hyped up for our trip...which is only 34 days away!!! :cheer2: :yay: :thumbsup2

Hello! I'm here for just a second -- 2 boys nearby -- and I don't want them to see me here on something Disney related. They are way too perceptive to NOT figure it out -- so I have to be careful!

We are cleaning closets and bedrooms today. We are planning to have a garage sale before our trip -- and the boys have the motivator of earning 10% (each) of our family total. They motivate each other -- and ME too! We tried having them earn the $$ from their own toys, but this seems to work better. Little do they know that they'll want that extra cash for our WDW trip!! Yipppeeee!

I'll be back again later -- after they go to sleep!

I wish I only had days! Have you seen that stinking snail move on my ticker yet??????????

I am trying to decide when to make reservations for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for my two younger girls. Can't decide on a day.

I cannot WAIT to hear about your trip when you get back.

Maddie2 - LOVE the garage sale idea. We are having one too as soon as it warms up. We have a change jar and counted out our change yesterday. We have a whopping $61!! Well, since that snail has not moved we have more time to save up. This is just extra money for the girls. I have also started telling them when they ask for something.. Would you rather me put the money in the jar or buy the lipstick, bracelet, gum.....???? They have been choosing the jar regularly lately.

Hope everyone is having a good Sunday. It is pouring... I mean POURING rain here and cold.

:)

Hello from the Frozen Tundra! We just returned home from ICE FISHING! I know, crazy. Our boys LOVED it -- and I enjoyed watching them from a heated sun porch. All I could think of is that in 2 months we will be swimming in a Disney pool. That helped. Actually it was fun -- and we won door prizes! DS9 won a tackle box and DS12 and I each won a lure! Wa-hooo!!!

What is Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique? I am guessing a dress-up shop? You have to have ADR's to go there? Being a mom to only boys, I'm not up on all this girly stuff!

I can't wait to hear your trip report too! Your family is so lucky to have you plan everything! Sometimes I wish I had someone else to do it all -- but then being the control-freak that I tend to be (I did NOT just admit that, did I?), it's better that I am doing it. I know what you mean about the standing around waiting for someone to decide -- that drives me crazy!

Have you heard about the High School Musical Pep Rally at MGM Studios? With the ages of your girls, I am guessing they would love it! Our boys say they don't like it -- too girlish, but if I tell them that I want to go watch it -- I'm sure they'll end up liking it too.

Do you do the pressed pennies? We did around 50 last trip, hoping to do more again this time. I need to find a print-out of all of the locations so we don't waste time and accidently double-up on those we did last time.

Have you ever shopped off-property? I have found info on some Disney outlet shops and I am wondering if they have anything decent? I don't mind last year's park merchandise (as long as it doesn't have 2006 on it), but I don't want just a bunch of knock-off junk either.

Here's a funny -- last night, DH says "I know! We'll tell the boys on April 1st -- April Fool's Day!!!" Genius. Obviously he wasn't listening when I told him more than a week ago of this plan. You know how sometimes it's just best to let them think it was their idea? Yep, this is one of those times. Perhaps his enthusiam is starting to build -- he's thinking of our vacation even when I'm not bringing it up. That is a good sign!
