With the early sell out of the Runner's Retreat we are destined for a weekend that is great for spectators who will be able to stand course side and think about how great the weather is. It always seems to work out that when the retreat is an early sell out, the race will be warm and dry.

For me right now anything over 40 is going to feel hot. :goodvibes

Jon, I am with you, brother!

With the average temps in Chicago the past two months being in the 30-42 range, I have forgotten how it feels to run in warmer temps! Orlando temps last week were in the 70s -- that is going to be interesting.

I wonder if I should do my maintenance runs next week in the gym on the TM just to run in warmer environment. :confused3

Well, I will be at Disney on the 4th so I will have several days to get used to things. The 5K will be my 'barometer' for how running will feel like.

For those of you going a few days early, prepare for anything - cold, hot, rainy, etc. You just never know with Florida weather. Of course, I'm hoping...hoping for 45-50 degree weather....both days. :teeth:

High 50s at the start and 70s during the race works for me. That year it hit 85 degrees was a tad warm though.

Dave:hippie:

We'll be at the Orange Bowl during the week prior....GO TIGERS!.....so I'll have a little extra time to adjust to warm temps.

Look for me in the 14th row on the 40 yard line, and in my Tiger gear at the Half!

I'm praying for temps no warmer than low 60's. Anything over that and I overhead and slow down, which for me is a very very dangerous thing since my pace hovers around 16:00 mpm on a good day.

I'll take it. I HATE cold weather running. I fair much better in the 60-80 range. My run yesterday in 28* was miserable. I do not like layers.

Rick,
When I did my 14 on Saturday it was snow and ice. Did another 7 on Sunday. This time on the TM in 70F. Didn't like staring at the same wall for 70 minutes.

Perhaps, but DH commented on our last long run that we haven't had to do a single long one in the rain. I figure that condemns us to rain Saturday AND Sunday! :rotfl:

I agree, I'll take anything over 40 and dry. We've been really lucky in Chicago this year, but last week was COLD. When I woke up last week, dh asked if I wanted to run in the am when it was 12 degrees, or if I wanted to go in the afternoon when it was supposed to hit 20. I went in the late afternoon, and I'm sure it was in the teens.

I'm worried that I too have forgotten how to run in the warm weather. I'll probably be out there in layers and sweating on mile one. Can't wait though!!

Well the good news is that rain events in January are generally 10-20 minute affairs and are usually nothing more than a trace to possibly 0.10".

A word from a traveling marathoner.....

Even if it looks like the weather will be warm, cold or normal as you pack, bring clothing for all conditions. I cannot emphasize enough that when you put it in the suitcase on Wednesday there is still a chance the weekend weather will not be as advertised. 2004 was that way.. It was balmy and expected to be so on Sunday. Then a front blew in a day early wrecking the marathon for those who did not bring cool weather clothing.

I'll concur with that. Even though the weather for marathon weekend 2011 was (IMO) perfect, I found that I didn't think ahead to the runs I wanted to do later in the week while we were still at WDW. It grew progressively cooler throughout the week and my running clothes (and actually, the rest of my clothes, too!) weren't quite warm enough. This year I'm just going to bring two of everything!

Someone must have one of those long-out forecasts by now . . . do share, and let the fun begin!

AND...what does this (2004), the freakish cold of 2010, and upcoming 2012 have in common? I'm registered!!
So plan for cold. And misery sitting around waiting, trying to stay warm.
Now, excuse me while I go toss a couple of trash bags in my suitcase. :lmao:

Ugh, still doing the cool event dance here. Simply have not enough pace time for it to be too warm. I go so much slower the hotter it is.

Ditto. Warm weather is a death sentence for my goal of simply finishing.

2 weeks 1 hour and 11 minutes before the 5K starts and I'm thinkin "Sure hope it's cooler than the 67.4* it is here, slightly SW of Orlando.
