It's Girl Scout Cookie time-here are some tips for Girl Scouts

I also think the OP is being a bit harsh. I wonder if my family feels that way. I am also not a mindreader. :confused3 I know it's a recession and not everyone has a lot of discretionary income, so it's easier to just delete an email if you aren't interested rather than say no face-to-face to a 9 year old or say no to her over the phone. I wanted to give family the option to buy, but I CERTAINLY don't want to pressure anyone or make them feel bad.

Now I wonder if my family felt the same way..because I sent out a mass email and only had my 9 year old call the people who don't do email. I just know I would feel really put on the spot if a relative called me asking me to buy something, and I am not trying to guilt anyone. At all.

Probably--why not at least let the girls send out the email?

I, as a mom, send out emails and facebook messages to ask people if they want cookies, but no pressure, just putting it out there, I do make my daughter askk our friends and family, it is her resposibility being as she is the one selling the cookies. Also It is NO longer recommended to sell door to door, so we do not do it, too many things can happen. So OP,what is your number? I will have dd call you....lol. And we ship free!!! :)

I am not having my daughters go door to door for pre-sales. I have a 5yo and 10yo in scouts. I am planning this year on ordering extras and taking them around pulling their wagons. A large portion of my neighborhood house stack and borders change regularly. I don't want to deal with that. I found they sell better when I have them in hand vs ordering them and waiting 6 weeks for them.

They will both give relatives a call or visit their houses to see if they want any.

Also as far as email.. the bakers have a whole website set up for the girls where they learn about safely and than they can email "postcards" asking people to buy. The earn a fun patch for this.

GREAT idea!! Thanks!

Also where do they get a patch for setting up the email thing....???

If your mom calls me, I won't buy from her. If you call me, I will order A LOT from you. If your mom posts on Facebook asking people to buy, I won't buy from her. If you call me or stop by my house, I will buy a LOT from you.

My one niece is a girl scout. She doesn't call, doesn't contact us but her mom does, we won't buy any from her. Our best friends DD just called and very politely let us know she was selling them and wanted to know if we were interested in buying some from her. We bought 10 boxes. We have one other family we know where their DD stops buy to sell us cookies. We will buy 10 boxes from her too. My sister sends out a mass email telling everyone it is time to put in orders from her kids, we don't buy from them. :thumbsup2

i agree exactly. good post.

I would buy from the parents or the kids, it doesn't matter to me. I remember when my son was in the 5th grade and in Boy Scouts. I had him go door to door to sell the popcorn. He was very shy and it was hard for him to do. Heck, it would be hard for me to do. I hate asking people to buy things.

So, I will buy cookies or popcorn from an adult or child. I know that it benefits the child and organization, so that's all that matter to me.

Thank you.:thumbsup2 I feel the same way. I will buy from pretty much anybody. I was painfully shy as a kid, right into adulthood. Back in those days you went door to door with your box full of cookies and sold them out of the box. It was almost unbearable for me. My parents didn't help me sell, either. One time i took my cookie box and threw it into a drainage ditch just so I wouldn't have to go sell those stupid things. :headache:

I can't say that selling cookies helped me in any way. I am still very anxious with new people and new places. I have never required my children to sell ANYTHING. If they want to do it, fine. But they don't have to. If they need to raise money, they take care of pets, babysit or get a job.

I was a girl scout 35 years ago. I lived in Chicago and my dad would not allow me to go door to door as he was concerned about my safety. He bought 100 boxes from me and I was done. I sold the most cookies but did not get the prize, as the troop leader did not think I earned it. She was adament about the fact that I spent a whole 5 minutes selling cookies to only one person. I was crushed and left the troop because of it. So much for the greater good of the troop!! they had some girls selling cookies on base the other day, I made a dollar donation but really the cookies are absolutely awful.
