So, after 2 years of no Disney trip my father decided I needed to get out of the house (yes, I'm struggling with finding a job and have been struggling with depression) and decided to surprise his little girl with a quick Disney trip this weekend!! Ok, I'm 32, but I'm still his little girl. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it (and, as soon as he planned this, I found a job-- it HAS to be related, i'm sure!).

But I have a Pal Mickey that I got 2 years ago, and I know he's supposed to work when I get there, but do I just wait and see if he'll readjust himself or do I need to take him in and get him "rewired" so to speak? We leave this friday, so time is of the essence! I can't believe it-- after 2 years, I'm finally going! My first time riding Soarin', and Stitch (which I've heard stinks-literally, but I have to try it), and Everest, and a final shot at Millionaire! Oh, and I got our trip info in the mail today with out luggage tags, which just made me sooooo happy. Sigh. And I promise a full trip report! And suggestions anyone?

My understanding is that Mickey is not going to learn about new things in the park without some help, so you'll have to take him to a shop where they can re-educate him. I guess it takes about 10 minutes or so. ;)

All Pal Mickeys will simply start working when you enter a WDW theme-park if you have him in the open (not in a bag) when you enter the park.

Make sure he has a new fresh set of batteries (AA alkaline, 3 of them), and bring an extra set of batteries, just in case.

If for some odd reason he does not start "wiggling" and then telling you about the parks after you are inside for a bit... you can take him over to the Main Street Cinema (Pal Mickey Store) in MK for a quick electronic "reset".

But you really should NOT need to do this at all.

Thanks guys! I'm so excited! Last time I was there, Pal Mickey went a little haywire, and they simply gave me a new one, which I couldn't believe... So here's hoping Mickey will recognize he's home. I know I will!

Sorry, but that is simply incorrect information.
There is generally no need for an "update" unless your Pal Mickey won't talk about the parks while IN the parks.

and Click on NEWS to find this:

Note About Older Versions of Pal Mickey: Due to the misinformation on certain message boards, I called the Main Street Cinema at the Magic Kingdom to verify. Cast Member John has CONFIRMED that the older Pal Mickey (any version prior to the HCOE version) can only be "updated" with the park's daily information (parade and show times, etc. - as stated in the instruction booklet) and can NOT be "updated" in any other way. In reality, their use of the term "updating" means to "re-set" him to enable him to receive signals from the emitters and to properly respond. However, the older Pal Mickeys can NOT be made to provide information on any of the newer attractions (Soarin', LMA, Everest, etc.), or to have the latest features (singing, louder voice, new games, trivia, interacting with the Glow medallion). These are the facts. I hate to see people buying the original at a huge discount and being disappointed that he won't do what they thought. The original Pal can still be fun (both of mine "do the parks" together often), but has limited capabilities

Thanks for the link... I'm a Disney veteran, so the info is really just for my amusement anyway, so I know we'll have fun no matter what he manages to do!
