My mom stopped trying with easter baskets when I was quite small, like 4, I think. My brothers got theirs until they were 10 or so. The reason was that we both like black jelly beans.
It was fine for her to steal all the black ones out of my brothers' baskets. Most kids it would be fine. My mom and I will RACE for the black jelly beans out of a bag of jelly beans. If she put out a bag, we'd both pick through it until all the black ones were gone and then the rest would sit there. Soooo, I think she just gave up.
There was also the fact that the only white bunnies (I DESPISE chocolate) when I was growing up were pathetic things compared to the chocolate bunnies. So really, the baskets for me were kind of sad. I much prefered making my own basket, dying my own eggs, and buying my own candy in the weeks before Easter to eat at my leisure.
Fortunately, now you can buy all black bags of jelly bellies and they make BIG white buns!
