It's been a really sad day

One of my students was killed in car wreck by some teenagers drag racing. It makes me so angry! This is my third year as a teacher and this is the first student I've lost. I'm not sure how to handle it.

So very sad, and yet from this tragedy, six people received the gift of life. What a remarkable young woman.

Sorry to hear such sad news. Is the school planning some kind of memorial. When a student at my ds school died they had a little service. Some mentioned planting some flowers on the school grounds etc. Maybe you can reach out to the parents and tell them what kind of student he/she was etc. When my sister died I even asked the hair stylist what they talked about since she was one of the last ones to see her. Maybe your class could do a writing exercise and send a letter to the family etc. Hugs, prayers and PD. Also in our town 2 boys died tragically this way also but an adult was at fault speeding, etc. The kids set up a memorial and the town tore it down once, but the kids keep putting it up, flowers, pictures, christmas decorations, candles etc. I feel it is not an eyesore and this helps give them some kind of closure.

I am so sorry. I wish I had words of wisdom. I am not sure there is a way to handle it- deaths like this are hard to "justify". Maybe All we can do keep putting one foot in front of the other and hope that through this tragedy others can learn and live.

I'm so sorry for your loss and her family's! We lost someone every year from 8th grade up until 12th grade. It's very hard and shocking for high schoolers to go through.

I'm very sorry. We have lost a few students in my 16 years at Clay HS and it is always hard. Last fall a former student was murdered. You may feel like you have to stay strong for the students who knew her, but take care of yourself as well.
