We had our first trip 2 years ago. The whole experience was amazing and Disney's attention to detail is incredible!

We are going back to DL in a few weeks. When planning this trip I realized we missed so many of the little details that just make Disney so magical. The interactive stuff in the que for Indy? Had no clue....I really thought the sign that said not to touch the rope MEANT don't touch the rope.... Alas we will not be able to revisit that this visit!

Disney Dreams thread about the details in Cars Land was an eye opener.....you can hear a piano lesson coming from upstairs on Main Street?? Really? Where?!?

If you don't mind sharing some of those little details I would love to hear about them!! We are planning on making a game of finding and photographing hidden Mickeys, but I would love to know about some of the little hidden gems too. I want to soak it all in this time!!!

If you are RBT and look over across at NOS...you can see sailing masks

Welcome to the beginning of discovering MY favorite things about Disneyland. Yeah, the attractions are great. But the little details... I wander through the Park for hours smiling at them.

Piano Lesson - On Main Street. Second floor window above the shops. Hmm... Okay, as you walk down Main Street there are little "side streets" if you can call them that. When you turn down one, I think by the lockers???, look at the second story windows. One will say, "Piano Lessons." Stand there and just listen for a minute or two. You will her the piano instructor, the student, the student making a mistake, and so forth. LOVE it!

Dentist Office - Again, in one of the little off-shoots on Main Street, you will see the Dentist Office window and hear the sounds of a dental office.

and my favorite:

Hotel - Find the window from the hotel and you can hear a man showering, brushing his teeth, water running, etc.....

Stand at each window and listen for a bit. You will be amazed how many people around you just buzz right by and have no idea they are missing entertainment coming from those who "reside" in this little small town USA.

Enjoy!

HTH,
Dreams

The "street" the PP mentioned is usually referred to as "Cross Street" and you'll find those nice touches if you turn right (facing the Castle) off of Main Street.

Grab one of those tables, outside of the locker's, and just hang out with a cup of coffee, and soak it up,,, you can hear everything from those tables..

Have fun, the little things are what makes the best memories!:upsidedow

This is fairly commonly known but it's one of my favorite details.

Above the fire station was Walt's apartment. It's still there with a lot of it's original furniture. Walt left the lamp in the window on to let workers know that he was there. After his death, the light is left on all the time in his memory. EXCEPT when one of his daughters is in the park out of respect for their loss. So I make it a point every day as I'm walking in to look at the light and give a thank you to the man who gave me and so many others my favorite place in the entire world.

Go through the castle into Fantasyland. When you are near the Carousel, turn around and look up by the Castle, where you see a window with curtains. Watch it for a few minutes to see the Evil Queen...

Ride the Mark Twain, and LOOK at all the small details. About 2/3s of the way, up at the top of a tree is an eagle and eaglettes.

In DCA, on Buena Vista St, just hang out for a while and see all the "people" of the street. I love Officer Blue.

Have you been in the Animation Building? Have you been through Beast's library? Have you seen the Zoetrope?

Malcon10t- No I have not done any of those! They are on my list now!

SamandWill1921- I did know about the lamp, but not until we were home from our trip. I did not know about them turning it off when his daughters are in the park!

kylie71, OKW Lover, Disney Dreams- Thank-you!!!!!! This is going to be something I will enjoy very much!! I feel a coffee and perhaps a Matterhorn Macaroon might be in order?

Minjo- I will look for that!

Thank-you!!!! I think the last time we were kinda "shell shocked" by everything! We had an absolute blast, but I was sad I missed so many of these details once I found out about them!

when going to Snow White ride rub the brass apple at the begging and see or hear what happens

I love the Evil Queen in the window above Snow White's Scary Adventures (and the brass apple!)... And, of course, the light burning in the window of Walt's firehouse apartment.

My other favorite details are the sound of the telegraph clicking out Walt's Opening Day Speech in New Orleans Square. It may sound strange but I hear that clickety-click and think of the words and it makes me tear up. You can also hear sounds coming from the second story balconies in NOS. And it was so much fun discovering Fortune Red tucked away just outside Pieces of Eight.

The party line conversation on the old telephone at the back of the Market House is cute.

There's a baby picture hanging on the wall in the waiting area at the Main St. Baby Care Center is of a wee little Walter Elias. I love that.

I recently learned that Walt's private box at the Golden Horseshoe is open to the public, so the next time we're at the park I'd like to go in and check it out. We've never even been inside the Golden Horseshoe!

And then there's Jingles... Apparently all of the horses on the King Arthur Carrousel have names (list available at City Hall) and Jingles was originally the only white horse and Walt's favorite. Jingles was dedicated to Julie Andrews in 2008 and the saddle area is painted with little Mary Poppins decorations and things. It's awful but my son (who just turned 5!) and I argue over who's going to get to ride Jingles. :goodvibes

Great thread! I'm making notes for our upcoming Oct trip so keep the details/secrets coming! My DDs and DH love this stuff too. They will be so impressed when I show them these things :worship:
I think I have seen other threads like this before but have no clue how I would search for them (what words would I use?). Let me know if you know of any...

Above the fire station in Toontown, a dalmatian pops in and out of the window. This one may seem silly but I NEVER noticed it before--look up in the Emporium and there's great scenes with mannequins. Listen inside the well in Snow White's Grotto. Also you can ride the Lilly Belle, the tender seat, and drive the Mark Twain.

Eddygirl thanks for starting this thread. I'm so so excited about these things.. Can't wait until Oct.

I wish I had that Disney feeling at work.

Last time we were in Disneyland my daughter and I visited Town Hall on Main St. and got a print out of each of the names for the horses on King Arthur's Carousel...i think that is nice touch and my daughter that it was need to have some "inside information." :thumbsup2

Details/hidden gems are something that come up fairly often, and there are certain threads which focus on many of them (except some of the threads may be called "Disneyland Secrets" or some variation of that - in fact, Mary Jo's big Info sticky at the top of the page has some links to a few of the "Secrets" threads).

If you go to the Disneyland Community subforum you will find threads on the different themed bathroom signs around the parks, the different lighting fixtures/elements around the parks (many of them are also themed) and flowers/plants around the parks (many of which are also themed and colored to their specific lands), just to name a few.

Sweet, thanks SherryE! I did a search and did not come up with anything.....but I did not use "secrets" in my search...duh! That would have had better results!
