It's a Year of Celebration; Nerds invade WDW, a PTR -- Updated To Buy/To Pack 5.13.09

:rotfl2:

So, I have quite a few things I need to buy. Essentials such as shaving cream and razor blades. (No Yeti legs!) And many other things that aren't really essentials. When I was in my overplanning "make a webpage" I made a page dedicated to those things you never think about packing, but should. So, here is that list.

WHAT TO BRING TO WDW?

I know, I know... you've all gone on vacations before and you know what to pack. Shorts, shoes, underwear, etc. I made a list anyway. This is a list of things you usually wouldn't think to pack, or things that are easily forgotten. You can thank me later. ;)

  • Sunglasses - I wouldn't want you to go blind!
  • Lots of extra socks - Why? Because you will sweat (or glisten, if you're a girl) and want to change into a fresh pair.
  • Moleskin - Helps prevent blisters, and ease the pain when one does happen to show up.
  • Sunscreen - Duh...
  • Hat - More sun protection. I know 3 out of 5 of us endured long dreadful band camps and we think we can handle it, but I don't want to be rubbing aloe on ANYONE! At least living in Memphis helps us be already used to the weather in Lake Buena Vista. Hot and Humid.
  • Medications/Aspirin/Pepto/Tums/Allegra/etc. - Just in case. I will have first aid kit with emergency essentials, but if you know you get stomach aches easily or have allergies, please bring your own week long amount.
  • Chewing Gum - Kaytea, this mostly applies to you and me. You and I are avid gum chewers, thanks to middle and high school. They do NOT sell gum on Disney property!
  • IDs - To show you're over 21, to use your debit/credit card, etc.
  • Camera/Cable/Charger/Bag/Memory Cards - To capture the memories!
  • Cell Phone/Charger - PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THIS! If you get separated, your parents want to talk to you, etc.
  • Address Book - Send your family some postcards, they will appreciate it!
  • Ziplock Bags (big & small) - To store wet stuff in, if you keep it in your tote bag and to put your camera, wallet, cell phone in if you decide to go on a water ride.
  • Hand Sanitizer - Little kids = lots of germs. I don't want anyone getting sick. I'm bringing Lysol to spray the rooms down, too.
  • Ear Plugs - For fireworks, if you are sensitive to loud noises
  • Poncho - On average, it rains more in the month of June than any other month in LBV
  • Water Flavor Things (i.e. Propel) - Florida water = NASTY (We're spoiled in Memphis with our super clean water.)
  • Mini Fan - You will get hot and will want to fan off.
  • Air Freshener - Tight quarters for 8 Days & 7.5 nights, running around outside all day? EWW!
  • Surge Bar - To plug in all of your stuff to charge
  • Tip Envelopes - Mousekeepers aren't supposed to take tips that are not clearly marked, and please tip them!
  • Shoe Holder - To hang on the bathroom door to sort through stuff so the sink counter won't be congested with everyone's stuff.
  • Hamper - Dirty clothes
  • Health Insurance Card - PLEASE! Just in case of emergencies!
  • Cash - Not all places will take cards. Also, quarters for toll booths!!!!!!!
  • Insect Repellent - Self Explanatory...
  • Very Light Jacket - Cool nights, and indoor air conditioning
  • Aloe - For when you don't listen to my request of Sunscreen and you get a sunburn
  • SOAP! - Please bathe... pretty please...
  • Stain Stick - For you messy eaters
  • Trashbags - Those hotel trashcans are never big enough.

Of course, I don't expect them to bring all of these. I'm actually making little trip bags for them. :)

Ah, onto a packing list!!

Would the Olivia ones show weird toe cleavage, you think? :rotfl:

They might. I wondered about that....

Ah, onto a packing list!!

:lmao::lmao::lmao:
I've decided that you and I need to go to Disney together. Clearly, we plan the EXACT same way. (ie, over plan....) Ah, kindred spirit.

I'm officially 9 days out on our trip! Yesterday my packet came in the mail from my Vacation Planner (AKA: TA) In a black folder, came a lamented sheet with transportation information on it, our 2 voucher books and a couple of 30 min. arcade cards, maps to all the parks, water parks, DTD, and Disney Quest, luggage tags, lamenated sheets with our ADR information on them, and sheets with tips, etc. We also can check-in online! I plan on doing that tonight sometime. I'll post some pictures up of stuff soon! Just thought I'd do a quick update! A better one will come along soon!

Hi guys and gals! So, now time for a real update. I'm officially one week away from my vacation! I'm still buying things and putting together a packing list, etc. and I'll post those up so if someone else is interested in using it, they can.

Firstly, I'd like to figure out how to get more traffic over here, for when I start my TR/DR. Maybe the title about us being nerds is making the cool people go away? :lmao: Although we're nerds... we are fun!

Today I checked in to our hotel. You can do online check-in up to 10 days before your vacation. It's super easy. We probably won't arrive until 6:30pm on our check-in day, so the line shouldn't be too long, but it will help us get to our rooms quicker and to eat quicker!

But before I delve into my day by day plan (which is always subject to change, because I totally don't want to be a planner nazi), I wanna show you my planning tools.

First, the websites I used. Of course, I used the DISboards, you get first hand advice from people who go to WDW all the time, first timers, etc. Every perspective you need. I also used www.allears.net. This is a great website to use to read menus to figure out where you want to eat!

Also, I have this:

137.jpg

This is my Disney binder. Each person in my group got one with their name on it with stickers that relate to them. Everything is neatly organized inside, neatly typed, etc.

Page one has a list of Abbreviations that are commonly used on the DISboards, that I use throughout the notebook. Page two has all of our cell phone numbers, and all the POP contact information. This is followed by our Hotel Confirmation numbers and our travel agents information. Also followed by park hours, POP information, Dining Plan information, etc.

My travel agent has been awesome! And my Disney packet came in with my lamentated confirmation numbers, maps to all the parks, my vouchers.

I've also purchased several books that I'll post titles of as soon as I decide to get up and get them. My dog is sleeping on my lap and I don't want to wake him. Poor thing has an awful Friday ahead of him, to have his surgery. I feel badly because I'm leaving shortly after his surgery, and that's just not cool to do... but I'm afraid to wait any longer for it. Keep him in your thoughts and/or prayers. :)

Perhaps we should advertise? :lmao: I'll wear my "Nerds Invade WDW" sandwich board around for the next few days. ;)

Once you start your TR and the mods move it to the TR board, more people will probably join. *I* like your title. That's why I started reading in the first place! :)

I can't believe your trip is coming up so soon! I am jealous just thinking about it. I think it's hilarious that you put a list of commonly used Dis abbreviations in your notebooks for everyone. I use the term "ADRs" with my parents the other day while talking about Disney and they looked at me like I was crazy.

:rotfl:

Then the title, it shall stay! Go nerds! Haha!

I use the term "ADR" all the time, usually followed by the phrase "oh, I mean reservations". :rotfl:

And, being kindred spirits, I saw a movie poster while at the movies Monday, and feel the need to share it with you: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0844471/

:thumbsup2
