NYE 2010 we had a gathering at The Fort. A friend of a Fiend was there, who lives in Fl. We got to talking and we are from the same state, NY, same small city, and same street. We lived 4 houses away from eachother. What are the odds? This is the most recent small world experience I've had.

So, tell us about your It's a Small World experiences.

A few years ago we were crossing the bridge to Tomorrowland and somebody said Hey Curt. I didn't even know it but my sister and family had gone to Disney and it was their and our first day there too. We have had other chance meetings with others we did not know were going to be there. Must be a popular place.:rotfl:

I have 4 to share.
1. DH and I were on a cruise with his brother and wife. When we went to Puerto Rico we found out that thier sister was there on vacation. We all met up and hung out.

2. DH and I went to Myrtle Beach and when we got there found out that DH sister was there at the same time. We met up and hung out.

3. DH and I were in St.Thomas and wandering along the shops. We stopped for a drink and the owner of the bar was there and he used to own the deli next to our ice cream shop on Sanibel Island. He had sold and we had sold it had been years since we saw each other.

4. When we owned the ice cream shop it was season and the line was as long as the plaza. So I went out to entertain the crowd to keep smiles on faces. I hear a yelling (not in a bad way) from the back of the line so I raced to see what was up. Turns out 2 men were in line with their families. These 2 men were roommates in college. They had not seen each other since college and were on vacation at the same time. They then proceeded to find out that they owned the same timeshare week at the same complex on Sanibel. They also came to our shop for ice cream every night after dinner every year. They never ran into each other until this night. When they got to the front of the line we started chatting and the new tradition was to meet up for ice cream every night and let the kids play. I thought that was really really cool!

Back in the day ('92)...we were staying in one of the cabins (then still called trailers) in FW. My husband and son went to rent a golf cart. When they were at the Meadow Trading Post area my son ran into his then 6th grade Social Studies teacher from the elementary school he had recently graduated from some two months earlier. Turns out his teacher was staying IN THE SAME LOOP we were in as well. My son... was not a happy camper!

Oh, and the last time we ate in Mexico (Epcot, that is),we were seated next to a couple who came from the town we border..we live within a few blocks of one another. We shop in the same supermarket..eat in the same restaraunts..that type of thing.

I never run into people I know when I am camping

oh unless you mean when I was in the 200 loop a few yrs ago and I was talking to the new neighbor. In the course of the conversation found out we worked in the same place just different departments.

Or the time we were staying at the Wilderness Lodge and Kathys doctor walked past.

Or the time were were walking into the Country Bear Jamboree and ran into a girl I worked with, she wasn't with her husband who I also worked with lol

Or the Lady at Thousand Trails whom I apearantly worked with in my last 2 places of employment.

nope never run into anyone I know

We were in Charleston SC (600 miles from home) for Spring Break and went to Market Square, got out of the car started to walk down the street, another family gets gets out of their car. It is a fellow and his family that Linda taught with. As we are standing there talking we hear Mr. K!, Mrs S! here come two of the girls they taught.

I went to a local restaurant for lunch one day and discovered they were preparing for a politican to speak to the lunch crowd. He was trying to win his party's presidential nomination. He was the pastor at my church growing up - about 1500 miles away.
It was neat to see him and get to hug his neck. He hadn't seen me since my Daddy had passed away so he wanted to talk about that too - they had done some mission trips together. It was so fun to catch up with him.

That's all I've got - I never see anyone I know from back home out here!

A few years ago while at Epcot, a puppeteer walked up to our daughter and her best friend. This gentleman and his puppet proceed to talk them about being on vacation and then surprised them by calling them by name! They were both so surprised but it turns out the puppeteer used to live in our town and his daughter attended the same gymnastics school as my daughter and friend where they were student aides, so he knew them from there. :wizard:

Mine isn't Disney-related and is very complicated, which makes it even more freaky for me.

I grew up in the military and went to middle school in Greece. A friend (M) from that school found me on fb. M was living in the same city as I was at the time, but moved to London before we met in person. I sent M a birthday message and his response to me was that he'd just been to Turkey for his birthday and was in line for a museum or something and got to talking with the people behind him. He ended up meeting someone (D) who lives in San Francisco, and, through the course of their conversation, they realized that they both knew me. I had met D in Argentina when we both went to Antarctica to run the marathon.

To summarize, a guy I met in Greece 30 years ago, who is now living in London, went to Turkey and met a guy, who now lives in San Francisco I met in Argentina on our way to Antarctica. It still gives me shivers, just thinking about it!

On the bus to Mk one day I got to talking to a lady and found out she had recently moved from my town, homeschools her children (as I do) and we knew some of the same people. Not too freaky, but later that same day . . . I am in a restroom at MK changing my foster daughter E when someone walks up and says "is that E?" All sorts of thoughts are running through my mind, but it turns out that she had been one of her preschool teachers in the town (about 2 hrs away from us) that she moved from when she came to me. She was so excited to see her and her sister and find out that they were doing great. It gets better. I am in touch with her former foster mom and she told me she later ran into that same teacher in the store and she was telling her how happy they both seemed, which really made her feel good. It is a small world. Even though I am from Florida, it is about 6-7 hrs away and I have only once before ran into someone I know at Disney.

Two stories:

1. Back around 96 or 97, we had just finished eating at Pecos Bill's. My dad went across the street to get me a lemon shake-up/slushie. As he's crossing the street, we realize that a guy coming down the street is our dentist. They were enjoying a week at Disney, as well.

2. Last October, we went to WDW at the same time a couple of families from church and my brother and his family did. We knew that they were down there, but WDW is a pretty big place. Family #1 we ran into twice at Epcot - once when they were going into WS and once when they were leaving. Family #2 we saw at the bus stop at Epcot. We had left right before Illuminations because DD was DONE. They were staying in the cabins and we were in the 2000 loop, so we both were catching a bus back to the Fort. They walked up to the bus stop a couple of families after we got there.

One other time We walked into SeaWorld went in a gift shop and there was a family friend working there we lost contact with years ago.

Last year we were in line for a ride at Disneyland and the person who gets into line behind us is a woman with whom we were currently in escrow to sell our house. A contentious escrow...

It was a very LONG 10 minutes of awkward small talk, until she suddenly declared that her child needed to go to the bathroom. Right away!! And off they went. :lmao:

So very funny--after it was over. At the moment it was a bit painful.

Cathy

The Disneyland part wasn't that weird because we live in Southern California, but still...

I almost forgot a DIS-related small world event. I was one of the winners of the Magic in the Med contest. I was waiting on line for Jodi Benson's autograph and when I got to Kevin at the head of the line, I told Kevin who I was and thanked him for the cruise. The guy behind me heard me and it turned out that he was the other winner of the Magic in the Med contest!

I haven't ran into anyone at Disney yet...however I plan to go often enough that the odds will eventually be in my favor.

I did run into my boss on the beach in Daytona....my DD says “Look Mom isn't that MR H"....sure enough walking down the beach is the principal of our school and his family. I did get a towel over me before he got to us...my policy has always been no swimming or any activity that requires a wearing a bathing suit any closer than 500 miles from home just in case I do see someone I know.

After my DD’s graduated high school, I changed jobs and went to work in the library of a very large corporation with offices all over the world, the world headquarters are in Dayton, Ohio. There are thousands of employee’s, someone is always asking if you know so and so that works there, you hardly ever do. I was returning from a trip to Switzerland to visit my daughter; after we boarded the plane in Zurich my seat mate asked me where I was heading and I told him Dayton, Ohio…he said “me to”…..of course I told him I was on vacation visiting my daughter. He said he was traveling on business, I of course asked where he worked…..yep he was the president of my company…we chatted the rest of the trip….didn’t talk about work…

I met my half sister for the first time in 1999. I didn't even know I had a half sister, on top of that she was only 6 months older. Turns out we were both working on General Motor's Service Parts Operations together. But she was running the dock paperwork part of the job at a supplier and I was working the part certification paperwork at a customs broker firm. We have the same last name, one of which is highly unusual and our GM boss never mentioned he knew another person with our last name.

Our last trip to the Fort, we were hungry late one evening so DW and I went to he WL in the Roaring Forks eatery,,and Cheryl&Jeff (4mickey2) AND Bob&Kathy (TnBob) were there !!!

course, we all went there together. I don't have one of these really cool experiences so I thought I'd make one.:goodvibes
