We were in WDW July and November 2016, and were delighted to see the Goodbye section showing our names as we passed by the signs. It obviously got the info from our magic bands.

We were fine with that, but I can see how some people would not like this feature.

I just came back from Disney a couple of weeks ago, and was so disappointed when we went on the ride. To my surprise, they changed it back to the regular signs! No more personalized goodbyes!

Did any of you notice this?

Were the signs still digital or were they just the painted ones? I know in the past they would have trouble with the feature and and could shut it off and just show generic messages. I know this happened often. I haven't ridden it since they had added that (or now taken it away).

People have reported it being up and down. I thought it was gone entirely because of reports before Princess weekend, but then it greeted me and my cousin during the DVC member's event over that weekend this year.

It was the opposite for us. We were there on April 13 and saw our names on the signs. It was our first time seeing the signs so we were surprised and thought it was pretty cool, usually they are boarded up. Maybe they switch out the signs from time to time?

It comes and goes. They aren't boarded up, just sometimes they show a personalized greeting, sometimes they show a generic one. Not sure anyone (who is talking) knows why it goes back and forth
Same for all the Magic areas (HM, RnR, EE, etc)

Nothing digital. Regular wood signs as usual. Still neat, but it totally ruined my telling my husband a surprise was coming up.... he had not seen the digital signs. :(

Are you sure? That would be unusual. Their digital signs are typically there and they just look wood. This is how they were before they turned them on. The image they displayed looked just like the wooden signs. You'd only know they weren't wooden by knowing where the digital signs had been before.

We have yet to see our names in lights on IASW or EE - but we constantly see our names on the SM exit.

I personally think it's a neat feature and hope it sticks around.

I saw them working (and they displayed our names) and I saw them not working after that and they look just like the original signs (still the digital sign, but looks like original ones).

Ah! I had not thought of that. They looked painted. But maybe the big signs were actually digital.

Included a picture of what I saw.

I heard they got rid of it. WE did it last year but kind of creeped me out because we didnt use our fast pass for it and already knew who were wer. Again kind of freaked me out. I guess some people complained who knows? I wasnt complaining just creeped me out a little since we didnt do a fast pass lol

Hasn't got anything to do with fast pass. It uses the longer range chip in the band, the same one used for on ride pictures. In case you didn't know, there are two rfid chips in the band one is nearfield used for admission turnstiles payment etc, anything you have to touch. The other for pictures and special things like the sign.

I hope it is still working. We go back Memorial day weekend and I put our silly nicknames on the bands just so they would pop up.

Our names were there spring break/Easter week. I took a picture to use as the last page in the scrapbook for that trip.:-)
