This line in the article seemed to represent some ignorance on the side of either the article authors or those who's views they were stating:

"Others are miffed that Disney would inject fantasy worlds into a ride dedicated to cross-cultural understanding. "

I remember seeing mermaids, and characters on flying carpets, in the classical version of the ride.
Are these not "fantasy worlds".

I wonder if they will still do the Christmas version each year.

While I see your point and am not particularly happy with the changes... I do see some humor in being upset about being force-fed Disney this and Disney that... in Disney World.

Frankly telling I'm not much happy with the changes, some of the characters are very much similar to the fantasy worlds...

The problem is that Walt Disney (that guy the parks were named after) didn't think that because it all started with a mouse that it all ended with a mouse, or his other characters running around every attraction.

Disney decides to call this change part of the "magic", I'm starting to wonder where they think the "magic" is, this wasn't anything special or difficult to do. It was clearly a marketing decision, nothing more and they're already cashing in.

I do not support this change. I don't understand why the ride needed to be changed. Updated/refurbed yes but to add characters is crazy.

I don't get it. When some of those characters go out of fashion, will they change it back?

Maybe they should have started a thread on the Dis to see how this might be received before they bothered to spend the money. Unbelievable. No wonder they don't have enough money to build new rides.

I think what bothers me the most is that WDC has decided that plush toys are more important than children, both figuratively (in the ride) and in reality (by taking the emphasis off the idea that kids really would try to get along with each other). So I guess this is just proof that when they see happy children's faces they only see dollar signs. I guess I already knew that but didn't want to accept it.
