It's a New Year for a New You Super Goofs team thread

Lisa: Even if the teams are disbanded, we could still have a thread to 'chat'! I like our group, and would like to keep in touch.

I don't blame Dave for backing out either......there is never pleasing everyone, and when one person has a problem with something, that's what you hear about. You never hear the many voices without the problem.

I got my tush in gear and finished last week pretty strong. I logged 25 miles for last week (I count Monday to Sunday in my log). Not to shabby, since I was really lazy the begining of the week.

Joanne: Do you have a Southwest airlines airport near you? Sign up for DING... Download it here

http://www.southwest.com/cgi-bin/systray?action=download

and you will get periodic updates on reduced fares from your home airport.

Lisa i hear you on the driving....we drove to Austin from Chicago during xmas week...saved a lot of money...about 1k. I found that as long as we were conscious about taking breaks, the kids (4 and 6) handled it better than we did!
We decided our daily max mileage wise was around 500 miles.

Lisa - SWA doesn't do a thing for those of us having to fly out of Little Rock. It's often more expensive than the other airlines. Go figure. For some reason, SWA does not offer a route from LR to Nashville. The cheapest airfare from LR to Nashville that I can find for the dates I need is $400/pp. We're thinking seriously of driving instead of flying. And, if we do drive, we'll be more than happy to give you a lift to the race that morning. Even if we don't drive, we will probably rent a car so either way, you're covered. :thumbsup2

By the way, Lisa, are you familiar with the Advocare products? I'm really going to try to get healthier this year so that I can do the Goofy. Cindy, a friend of mine, recommended the Advocare supplements to help me with this goal. Her trainer at her gym swears by these products and Cindy said the products did help her with her energy levels and also helped her with her weight-loss goals. I'm going to try them for a couple of weeks and see if it helps. I know that they are not a substitute for healthing eating or exercise, I just feel like I need a boost along the way. Any thoughts?

Joanne - Airfare - it's all relative. I would love to have $200 airfare from LR to WDW. It's usually around $350-$400/pp for us. But, we're just a family of two and I know that makes a big difference. Steve and I flew into Tampa instead of Orlando for this past marathon weekend so that we could save some money. We were able to get $170 fare on NWA (I didn't like that we had to pay extra for checking luggage, though). We had to rent a car but I was able to get a pretty good deal on that as well. And, I kind of liked having a car instead of having to rely on the WDW bus system for once.

Mike - Yikes on the computer! I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. LUCKILY, my IT department had recovey software and I was able to retrieve most of the files I needed. I always make a backup of what I need now. You just never know. And, I usually make 2 backups...just in case. Sorry this happened to you.

Wow! I can't believe the Goofy is already 40% full. My name's in the hat. :scared:

I'm going to get ready here in a few minutes and go to the gym. I plan on doing something for 30 minutes and then take a 45 minute stretch class. I am soooooo stiff. I'm hoping the stretch class will help me gain the flexibility I think I need in order to maximize my potential. ???

Hope everyone has a good week!

Susie, do some research. While I have no personal experience with this line, they have been slammed in PT media for containing steroid substances of clenbuterol. Like I said, research what you are taking. When I was bodybuilding I was taking supplements and I went to do a drug-free show but I did not pass the test. Low and behold, my "natural" protein supplement was full of natural steroids. Make sure you know what you are putting in your body is all I ask.

I have used the Isagenix brand of supplements and they have a 9-day cleansing detox that helped me drop 10 pounds in a big hurry. They have protein supplement shakes, bars, vitamins and lots of other things. The supplements have good flavor and most important, no hidden "stuff".

We will rent a car for Nashville, I was just trying to avoid getting the DH and kids up super early to take me to the start line. This way they can lounge around, eat breakfast and find the finish line. With me doing the marathon, it isn't like they don't have time to kill!!!!!

Hi team! I was wondering about socks. I've just been wearing my regular socks, but as my mileage has been increasing, I'm sure I want to get something that will keep my feet happy and healthy. What should I be looking for? Anyone have any recommendations for me?

Hey Super Goofs! Sorry to be MIA since last week, but I have been recovering from the Goofy. I feel great and I am heading back to the gym to start working out again. My goal for this spring is to work on my speed, and try to get a little bit faster! My next race is the Long Branch Half in May, so I have some time. I just need to get back into the training so I don't get lazy!

I just wanted to add, that even if the teams disband, I would love to see our little thread here keep going. I don't see why we couldn't keep our little group together just to chat and support each other. Hopefully that will work out!

Sorry about not having time to catch up more, gotta get some stuff done on my day off, but I am going to try to catch up a little later on!

I have not really participated for very long with this group but I do really prefer the small groups over the large ones. Even though I'm new here, I have not gotten "lost" in the crowd like you do on the large threads. It is easier to "get to know" people which really helps with staying motivated.

Okay-lost my whole post. Work laptop is acting up!:badpc:

45 minutes of XC skiing today. Tomorrow I start my training using the FIRST program (basically, 3x/wk running with LR, tempo run and intervals) Shooting for a faster 10k in the spring, followed by early summer tri and TBD in late summer. The, if all goes well, train for Mickey 2010.:scared1: :scared: :faint:

Take care, all.

Maura

Good early morning all...

Just wanted to pop in and say hello...gave myself a week to recover from the 1/2...what an amazing experience. At the end of the race, I thought, there is no way I will ever do this again. But, the next day I thought, I can do that again! I have my registration form ready to go, just waiting until the 1/2 is 50% full to mail it in. I get a big $5 discount for working here. Biked tonight 30 mins and plan on 6-8 mile walk tomorrow with a friend from work depending on the weather.

Angie...thank YOU for keeping me company before the 1/2! It was great to see you again and chat all the way to the corrals. I hope we make this an annual event together!

Susie
...if ANY of the pictures you took out on the course of me turned out decent, I'd love a copy if possible. The pictures my husband took as I was running for the finish line are all blurry. I don't know why because I am not fast enough!

Have a great Tuesday everyone!!!

I'm here, about to go to the gym to run.

I'm pretty self absorbed today as I found out yesterday that I have numerous issues with my knee that can't be resolved without surgery.

Shame on me for not being more aggressive in pursuing the doctor for a final verdict...I did call twice in November, twice in December and finally got through yesterday; they pulled my file and realized they never received the radiologist report.

To my detriment, I had assumed (SEE, SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ASSUME?) that if they hadn't called me everything was fine.

Its not.

And I will lose at least two weeks of workouts on the training plan...

Mike

Mike- what the heck is wrong with your knee? Perhaps we can compare notes. Mine has been going on 5 months now!

Wow Mike, :grouphug: It must be bad, you didn't even get on me about beating me on this morning...:lmao: Sorry about the knee, what exactly is wrong? Yeah, lesson learned. I tell my MIL all the time, if you don't hear it is not necessarily good news it just means you were "lost to followup" as the docs put it.

Good morning to everyone!! I guess they are in the final decisionmaking for the team issue. Apparently it is a go as long as they can find a coordinator with Dave stepping down. I cannot volunteer for it but if any of you is willing, you can go for it. Also, if someone else would like to captain the ship this year, you are more than welcome. I got appointed and I enjoyed my time as captain greatly but there are so many awesome people on the team that I think we should take turns!!

I got the girls to the gym yesterday. They were troopers, especially DD14s friend. When my DD shoulder presses 90 pounds and her friend can only do 30, you have to scratch your head. Apparently, I am raising a Herculean freak, just kidding, clearly it is the superior gene pool...:lmao: :lmao: They also both started the Couch to 5K and did their first run with no complaints. DD's friend is sore this morning so we will do it again tomorrow. I got in 3.68 miles which was not as much as I wanted but I got some in anyway. I ran it which also makes me happy. What makes the the happiest though is that I was loving running and didn't want to stop just because they were done...happy girl...:goodvibes I think things are back on track for me!! I will ski this afternoon while the cleaning lady is here (yes she IS COMING THIS WEEK!!) as my DS7 is home sick and I can sneak out for a short while. We will see how much time I am allowed and that will determine my mileage for the day. Sometimes you just have to be happy to be able to do what you can do!!

Have a great day everyone and Mike, take care of that knee, please. You worry more than I worry myself....:upsidedow

Evidently I have:

1) A POSSIBLE medial meniscal tear...the reason it's possible is that since I have already had this meniscus torn and repaired, that it will always show up as a tear.

2) Chondromalacia: The cartilage under the patella is pretty beat up.

3) A 2 cm x 5 cm medial cyst. Evidently this is also called a "Baker's Cyst", and is associate with fluid on the knee which gathers at the back of the knee.

Make sure you follow up with your doctors folks...lesson learned for me anyway.

Got in 30 painful minutes on the elliptical.

Mike

Oh no, Mike. I hate to hear that about your knee. Best wishes for a quick recovery.

My knee decided to act up just before mile 8 of the half, but I'm in denial about it. I got 1.5 miles in on the treadmill. It felt ok for most of that first mile and then, not so much. My time was 20:48.

Mike...sorry to hear about your knee.

Walked 8 miles today with a friend from work in the Florida cold. I know its not as bad as most of you have it, no snow or freezing rain, but this morning it was in the mid 40's with 30 mph wind and it didn't warm up that much. Tonight we are expecting the mid 20's.

Tomorrow I'm ordering a "triple print" from ASI of my 1/2 marathon pictures so I can put my frame together. I think I am going to use the mylar blanket we got at the finish as the backround.

Have a great Wednesday everyone and keep warm!!

First to post this morning? Sleeping in Lisa and Mike?
Tuesday 75 minute fitness yoga, 3 miles on the treadmill, 1/2 hour with personal trainer.
Hubby bought some running shoes! He is going to try and train for MCM with me! I am so excited- he is pretty sedentary and it will give us a chance to do something together.

Swam 2100 yards at 0500, had to get some work done, then attend a stupid meeting 45 minutes away.

Feels like this is the first breath I've taken today!

hope everything is great for the Goofs!

Mike

So I woke up in the middle of the night with a sore throat and an hour or so later woke again with an upset stomach. Blah! My stomach is fine today, but the throat just keeps getting worse. I was going to try to give blood today too, but I'm sure they won't even let me in the door! I will try to hop on the treadmill later after getting some rest.

Get well soon, Megan! I did another pathetic attempt at a run tonight. I'm hating how long it's taking me to recover from the half! Tonight the shins were hurting just like in my beginner days, but at least the problematic knee didn't act up too much. Sigh.

One mile in 13:15, a short break, and then 0.75 mile in 10:30

On the upside, I tried another kind of TM at the Y for the second run. It's called the Woodway (the name made me think of WEDway People Mover). Basically, it was like running on a rubberized, moving boardwalk. I think I'll try it again next time I go to this particular Y.
