It's -39 degrees this morning!!!

I know what you mean.

It's a chilly 53 degrees here this morning.

I had to wear long sleeves when I walked the dog.

It's almost inhuman.

:lmao:

Sorry.....I just cant help myself.:lmao: :lmao:

I am so jealous. 53 degrees sounds wonderful; here in CT the temperature is 12 degrees! I don't know what the wind chill makes it, but I don't want to know.

When I took DS7 to school yesterday, my car reading bottomed out at -32F airtemp. I wanted to take a picture of it, since I had never seen it with a reading so low, but i didn't dare take my hands off of the wheel (icy roads and lots of wind).

So, what did DS4 and I do all day? We went snowshoeing. :scared1: We actually came back sweating.

I have a teaching story that is bang on that comment....our school board actually has a finger/cold policy.

One of the first schools I taught at we had a lot of new immigrants to Canada who had never seen snow/cold. They would buy fall coats thinking that was as cold as it was going to get then real winter would hit. Most children did not come to school properly dress and we always had to have extra mittens/winter cloths etc to give to them.

One boy walked to school one day without mittens. His finger was frost bitten when he arrived and in the end he ended up loosing part of his finger. The school/principal/duty teacher was sued and the judge determined that -23.5 was "warm" enough for the children to be outside for recess, but -24 was too cold.

Now when we have a princial near retirement the kids stay inside whenever it is in the -18's.

Apparently (I just found this out), my school district has a cold weather policy of cancelling school when it gets to -50. Monday night we got to -46....not cold enough! I can keep hoping though! And I truly think that teachers hope for snow/cold days more than our students do!

At my son's elementary school, the cutoff for going outside for recess is -18 actual air temp.

I keep going online to plan my summer vacations.....I wonder why????

OP here....I am from Ottawa Canada.....and all temps are in Celcius...

I work for the school board in Ottawa. We kept the kids in all day today and I guess it will be that way all week. I haven't seen a policy that closes the schools for extreme cold since it's always warm inside. Once the temp gets to -27c with the windchill, they have their recess breaks indoors.

Come to Australia - it is going to be 104 today and some areas are predicted to have temps OVER 104 for the next week!

Is that Florida hot?

LOL 39 is great, its 19 here and going to single digits Friday! :scared1: this is the pits!

Okay it is only -26 but the wind chill makes it feel like -39:scared1: :scared1: ......How do you dress a child to go to school in that......

I sure hope the podcast today tells us what temperature it is in Orlando.:rolleyes1

I need a list of "As Cold as".....

...the surface of the moon....

I am sure John can come up some good ones....

IT'S AS COLD AS.....Walt Disney in that cryogenic chamber! (sorry, couldn't resist.)

WOO HOO! Message just came in - NO SCHOOL TOMORROW.
I substitute teach so no "make up day" for me.
:cool1:

Mind me asking which district you're in? I teach in Kenosha but live in Racine and hooray we are out too! You know it's cold when the health department "suggests" that school districts close. I am SURE that Friday will be a "part two" to tomorrow's cold day.

Those of you in warmer weather (podcast crew!?!?) Laugh all you want that we're freezing up here but I don't have to work tomorrow!

Our schools were just cancelled, too! This is our second of two allotted days, though.....please no more! I don't want to make them up at the end of the year!

GBShorts: I am way up north in Duluth, MN but my DH and I teach in Superior, WI.

I live/sub teach in La Crosse schools. Everyone around our area is closed tomorrow. BRRRRRRRR.....

This is actually our 3rd day out of school; that means two days added on to the end of the year. Hopefully it will warm up enough to go back on Friday???

SE MN here. We are closed tomorrow. This is the second day this week. We sent them to school on Tuesday at 8 and they let them out at 10. This will be our 4th day off for weather.

Southern Wisconsin here, where it's a currently a balmy -4 with a windchill of -21 degrees. Not cancelling school here.... yet. Although all the districts around us have cancelled.

12 degrees - about an inch of snow overnight and still snowing.

It says its -1 here in Webster Groves near St. Louis. I had to take the trash out, but the dog would not go out. Bailey is a very smart Jack Russell and that proves it. Orlando is only about 60 degrees warmer. Stay warm everyone.

John

Huh...guess I should have checked here last night. DH left with DS7 for school this morning, I turn on the computer, check my email, and, lo and behold, there is an email from the principal - there is no school today! I never even turned on the tv or radio. I've been checking for days, and I figured it they hadn't closed school by now, they weren't going to. At least DS4 has someone to play with today
