The mom probably just got off of work and wanted to take her own kids trick or treating, not give that opportunity to a babysitter, that she'd never have again - one of the first times her kids can really understand trick-or-treating. Give her a break.

if that is the case she should go to a house of people she knows at 10 pm.![]()

I agree and also she should not be taking kids to houses where the outside lights are off. When the outside lights are off that means no candy.
I had someone do that here too last year - my outside lights were off because I ran out of candy and it was about 10 pm and some kids still rang the door bell. I answered it and told them I was out of candy that is why the outside lights were turned off.
I'm not sure everyone got that memo about outside lights. While you might think that is the official sign that a house is not handing out candy, not everyone agrees or understands this. It's an odd thing to get upset about, imo.
I've lived here for 12 years and it has always been like that here in our town and a reminder is printed in the newspaper every year along with the hours posted for 6-9.
So lights out at 10 means no treats and everyone who lives here should know this ,so no excuses for ringing door bells at 10 where the lights are off here.
And I'm not talking teenagers......I'm talking mom with a 2 LITTLE KIDS!!
3 & 5 year olds!!!
It's printed in the newspaper that ToTers are not to go to houses whose front porch light is not on? I've heard of hours being posted but I didn't realize they were getting so specific with the rules.
. The rules are there for safety reasons. I know I would not want my kids to be going up to houses with no outside lights on.Yes there are rules in some towns and cities about this. It was also like this in the town I grew up in that is in the midwest. The rules are there for safety reasons. I know I would not want my kids to be going up to houses with no outside lights on.

Right but you'd be with them, right? Especially at the ages that we are talking about in this post.
