DS15 just told me he wanted an ITouch for his 16th birthday. Nice because he is hard to buy for, bad because I don't know anything about them.

He has a cell phone and an Ipod with lots of room left on it. He wants the Itouch for the games and apps from what it sounds like.

Is it worth it? Other than storage size, is there anything different between the 8g, 32g, 64 g (well obviously the price too). What size do you have and why?

Would this pretty much like getting an I phone or Droid-without the phone and the data plan charges :lmao:.

If you have an Itouch, what is your favorite thing about it?

My DS got one for his 11th birthday...he want the apps and I wasn't prepared to give him a phone yet. Personally if your son's phone isn't locked into a plan I would look into the price of an iPhone...a touch is basically an iPhone without the phone...so why pay for both a touch and a cell phone? You usually can get a deal with cell companies.

My son's is only an 8g because of his age I didn't think he needed a more expensive one.

We just upgraded his phone not long ago so he has several months before that is an option. We are with Verizon. The cell phone he has now doesn't need a data plan, if we go to an IPhone for him that is and extra $60/month in data plan costs because DD15 will want the same for HER birthday too (which amazingly is is the same day as her twin brothers :lmao::lmao:). Our oldest didn't get a smart phone until he was a senior and we will probably do the same for the twins.

there's no such thing as an itouch...it's "Ipod touch". Just helping you if you wanted to search online for an itouch, you won't find it ;)

Um, where do you get your info? I Touch is a shortened word for Ipod Touch. Google I Touch and a slew of info comes up about the Ipod Touch.

My 11 year daughter bought herself an 8g one last year and it is full- no room for anything else on there- she deleted some things but its still full. I would go for at least a 16 gig one.

I had an 8g for a couple years and it was full, with no room to spare for anything else. It worked fine, but I have a ton of music and wanted to be able to add movies on there for when I travel, so I upgraded to a 32g after Christmas. I LOVE it. There are so many fun things to get for it. My older one was way out of date, and I'm glad I decided to upgrade when I did. I have 2 movies and music on there and I think there's a little over 10g full.. Still Plenty of room left! :thumbsup2

Good to know :thumbsup2

They have 8g Ipod Nano's and both say they have "room" left on those but no movies on those (they have the 2nd or 3rd gen with the screen or whatever). Do the apps take up a lot of room? I know he wants to play games, I would assume those take up a lot too. Now I have to decide between the 32 and 64.

If you buy a movie from Itunes and download it to the Itouch watch it and then later remove it can you re-add it to your Itouch? Can you then also watch the movie on a computer?? I am sure the kids know this but I don't want to ask them :lmao:. I don't even have an Ipod-maybe I will be getting a hand me down one in a little over a week though :rotfl2:.

DS8 has a 32g Ipod touch. We travel quite a bit so I wanted it to have enough room to hold a few movies. I was tired of dragging around the portable DVD player and all the movies.

He can text on it with the text free app, and can even receive phone calls on it from a select few that has the number. The grandparents love it , as does the rest of the family . He and his 22 year old brother text back and forth all the time. He loves to do facetime with me and the few close friends that have one, which is another reason I bought the latest model. My DH gave the iphone 4 for my bday. When DS goes to spend the night at his grandparents he always facetimes me to say good night . I have a feeling though , your DS won't be interested in facetimeing with you though lol.

My boys (13 and 10) both have iPod touches and absolutely love them. They both had classic iPods first but then asked for the touches for presents. The apps and movie storage really do make the purchase worthwhile. We are going on a plane trip tomorrow and the first thing they said they needed to bring were the iPod touches. They keep the boys so quiet that it is almost a present for me as well.

I'm on mine right now. It's my preferred way of doing quick web things. For apps and video's it's worth it. I love being able to bring it on a plane vs my laptop. At the minimum I would get a 32GB, the 8 fills up quickly. My father went ahead and bought himself a 64GB--I'm kind of jealous of his extra disk space.

However, I'm also now ready for a new nano now that my 3 year old one has seen better days. The touch is just too burdensome for my workouts.

DS15 bought one with his birthday money two years ago. He had an iPod (nano I think) and he actually still has it. He brings the Nano with him on school trips (like the band trip) because he was worried his Touch would be stolen (or lost). But the Touch, he uses it a lot. He has a lot of apps, some free, and some really helpful. He bought a French translation app (or got it free...not sure) and he uses it for his French class.

There are a few games that I love to play on it too...Words with Friends, and Chicktionary...very fun! He has movies on there too...

I think it was a sound investment, without the cost of a data plan!:thumbsup2

We bought his from B & H on line. check them out...their prices are usually lower, there is no tax, and shipping is free.

I got an itouch last year before my brain surgery. I wasn't going to be able to use a computer for 4+ weeks so an itouch was great for the internet, email, facebook, etc.

I got the 32g. I don't remember how much it cost because my parents bought it for me. They didn't buy it at apple. They bought it at Fry's Electronics for cheaper than at apple.

I LOVE my itouch. Best present ever. I use it at the gym, the airport, the hospital the doctors office, etc. I use it for games, movies and music. But I also did not have an ipod when I got this. So i needed a new ipod anyways so my parents just got me the itouch.

I love my itouch. Just be forwarned that a lot of the apps work only when you're in a wifi hot spot. And the games are a real drain on battery life.

We have 3 in our house. DD12 got an 8g with her Christmas money and almost immediately filled it up with just a couple of TV episodes. I have a 32g and have plenty of room on it.

I would not get an 8g - just not enough room once you start adding apps, movies and TV shows.

DBF has an 8 gig, I gave it to him for Christmas in 2009. He loves it (it's currently out for repair as it stopped powering on, we have the extended protection from Best Buy so the Geek Squad has it, but it's ready to be picked up tomorrow!), he's got TV shows, a couple of movies, tons of music and a lot of apps as well. I wanted to get him the 16 gig but they stopped making it so I did the 8 gig. He says he'd like to have a 32 gig sometimes (we may upgrade him and give DD11 his 8 gig) so he could have more movies on it but he's satisfied with the 8 gig.

DD14 also has the 8 gig and she has plenty of room on it, but she also doesn't have any TV or movies on it. :)

Edited to add that yes, it is an iTouch and we actually call it a "tap touch" here. lol DD11 coined the term when she was 10 because she wanted to play Tap Fish and she got all confused and called it a "tap touch", the term stuck so that's what we call them. lol :)

I have the 32 GB, I like to watch movies when travelling so that is why I went with more storage space. I also got the 32 GB onsale for 150 during a Boxing Day sale so the cost was worth it to me!

The only thing I want to add is a case for the Ipod i found the back of mine scratched up mega easy so I got a cheap like 5 dollar protector to keep the back from scratching so much.

If you do get the touch I found really great accessories at dollar tree (cord for the computer thats retractable, and a car charger).

Good luck!
