ITouch? Generations?

DS wants an ITouch for Christmas. How many generations are there? So confused. I see on refurbished site "last generation and 2nd generation" I should add he is 10, so seems better to buy refurbished. Thanks

there are 4 the first has NO external speaker the second is what my daughter has the 3rd my husband has... i see NO significant differeance between my husbands and my daughters except his is a 64gb and hers is 16gb but that said a 3rd generation is newer and therefor has more advanced parts perhaps holds battery charge better and will be supported over all for long then a second generation. The fourth and current generation has a camera on the front of the ipod and you can video chat via skype via wifi also it has a better resolution screen....

personally have a 1st (that i now use for a noise maker juke box lol), a second, a third, and 3gs iphone... andi owuld get the referbished previous generation (which refers to 3rd generation) for a 10 year old... for me i'd spring for the 4th but only because hubby is military and having video chat be so easy would be nice.

I would make sure he is fine with the "old model". It is still a lot to spend even on a refurbished one, and it would be shame if he was secretly disappointed he didn't get the current generation.

I just wanted to let you know that Best Buy has the 3rd generation i pod touch new for the same price as the apple website. I got one last week, I also saw some re-furbished models. Check out the best buy site.

I saw that Walmart is supposed to be having an 8gb Ipod touch for $195 with a $50 gift card or Itunes card (can't remember exactly) on Black Friday. Not sure which generation it is, but I would suspect maybe 3rd? I think last year the deals were on the previous generations. Keep an eye on Amazon on Black Friday too-they usually have some good deals but they go quickly.

I would definitely stay away from 1st & 2nd generation-they are too old. The only real difference between 3rd and 4th is that 4th has the camera.

we are looking at the new one for my son's bday in Nov. I was going to buy a refurb. one at first but now that it has video. Im going to go with the newest generation. I cant decide whether to wait till black friday or just purchase it thru apple.com so I can get it engraved on the back.

FYI-if you choose to get your Ipod engraved, it has virtually no resale or trade in value if you choose to trade them in to upgrade.
