* Need help with packing. * We are leaving in less than 24 days and I don't want to forget to pack anything! :scared1: So here's my question: What are your most "have to have" items when you go home? This will be our first trip home with DVC and we are staying in a Savannah View Studio at AKV Kidani. I welcome any and all responses. :grouphug: Thanks much!! :thumbsup2

I like to bring some plastic containers and lids--the paper gets old after a while. Some people even pack a few regular silverwear pieces, and especially a sharp knife (for cutting cheese, etc.) We also bring extra coffee packs from other hotel stays, or coffee and flat bottom filters.

I always bring:
1) container of Clorox wipes
2) liquid soap in pump to keep by the sink (can't stand washing my hands with bar soap)

I always pack clips (for bags), a small knife (for cutting cheese and limes), a small cutting board, plastic ziplock bags and plastic wrap. Of course laundry detergent and dryer sheets too. Coffee, spenda, tea bags, packets of mustard, ketchup, mayo, coffee filters, coffee scoop.

Depending on if and what type of coffee you enjoy you may need filters. I don't drink the type that comes prefiltered so rather than buy 200 coffee filters I bring a few from home. As other posters have stated a sharp knife is a must, you can't cut anything w/ a plastic knife. You may also want to bring some real cutlery rather than use plastic. I also bring a few zip lock bags of various sizes. A couple of Glad containers can be used for storage, heating and reheating as well as serving. All of this stuff fits nicely in a suitcase.

Have fun! The Savanna, it's fantastic!

Give us a little more info, how long you are staying, how many meals do you plan to have in the studio etc.

We will be there from Sunday to Friday. The only meals we plan to have in the room will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for breakfast. The plan was to take dry breakfast items and buy some milk and juice there. There will be 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 kids. We have ressies for all dinners and planned to have QS meals for lunch. I'm just wanting to make sure we don't forget anything. We are driving if that helps. :flower3:

Sounds like a plan! and yes the driving part helps tremendously! We are drivers are well which means we take alot of stuff with us. I would suggest a case of water or two if you have the space, we also take soft drinks and beer, saves us a bundle. We always have a rule with the smaller fridge, if you take out a drink, replace it so you will always have cold drinks. You may want to consider something that you can have for a light meal, just in case you are there at lunch time, a pack of ham, cheese and a loaf of bread, maybe a can of pringles. As others have mentioned you may want to bring some extra eating utensils.

The great thing about driving is that you are only limited by how much you can stuff in your car!

Along with what everyone else wrote, I'd add: a travel-sized mug (if you want something larger than the small mug that comes with the room), teabags decaf/caf; an immersion coil (to boil the water for the tea.............but if you like tea and are driving, an electric teapot would be good; I fly and don't have enough room for one).
Have a great time.:thumbsup2

I guess I need a serious answer. ;)

One thing that we always bring along no matter what size villa we have are those suction cup hooks (you know, the hook flips up to loosen it and down to secure it to a wall) to hang bathing suits in the shower. I don't use wash cloths in the shower because I bring along my own shower puff. Works better with the shower gel (or I also bring along my own).

I think the hair dryers in all the hotels are garbage so I always bring my own. I know I'm going to get my hair dried in a reasonable amount of time.

If people are staying with me, a power strip, so everyone can charge their electronic devices.

I don't bring plates, utensils or glasses.

I have never stayed in a studio however I picked up a great tip from the Cruise boards and now it's my must have travel item...a shoe organizer that hangs on the back of the bathroom door - I keep all of my miscellaneous items in there, like hair products, makeup, first aid stuff (I always bring a ton of bandaids and various antiseptics in case of blisters...although ironically enough I am never the one to get blisters in the trip EVERYONE else ends up loving me!)

I found the shoe organizer kept the washroom very neat and tidy, and without mousekeeping every day I think I will need it when we come "home" next year!

A hamper, we fly and i found one that folds up and fits in the suitcase. Snacks for the room and the parks.

Have a great trip!

We also drive, so it's easier to bring what we need.

We bring a shoe bag that hangs on the door for our bathroom supplies. Also a small hot water heater for tea, and a brita type water pitcher so we always have nice cold water. We usually just eat breakfast and snacks in the studio, so we bring cereal bowls for our morning oatmeal. And of course the food we need ;-)

If I could only bring one thing, it would be the shoe holder. Saves a ton of room and makes it so easy to find our toiletries, cosmetics and other supplies.

Have fun!

Have you stayed in a studio before? Can the kids share a bed/sofabed okay, or would an air mattress and sleeping bag be good? I like to throw in my memory foam mattress pad in case it's needed (unfortunately I didn't on the last trip and my adult daughter was miserable on the SSR's sofabed, but maybe AK is better [she did get a couple of "egg crate" pads from mousekeeping which helped]).

Shampoo and conditioner; your own hand lotion. An emergency roll of TP (we had to call mk pretty early on to get more toilet paper, and there were only 3 of us).

Salt and pepper. You might want your own cereal bowls (and splenda/sugar, etc.), and utensils. Baggies to bring home leftovers from those Park meals (if one of you carries a backpack, or you have a stroller). Sharp knife definitely, and bottle opener/corkscrew (if needed). Definitely large mugs, with lids.

Driving, I would take an ice chest with some milk (you can freeze it, if it's a long drive) and juice, butter, etc.

Power strip and all needed cords and extra batteries/storage media (not that that relates to the studio).

My first studio-at-AKV-stay is coming up in Nov. so this is helping me plan, too! Thanks!

Hey all! I am reviving an old thread I found in a search. Can anyone help?
We are planning to do a lot of meals in the studio if possible.

1. Do I need to bring a can opener? (If we do soups, spaghettios, etc)
2. Should I bring extra plates, bowls, etc?
3. Any good ideas for "meals" other than sandwiches and soups?
4. Thinking about bringing either crock pot or electric skillet. Is there room on the counter for either?

Any other suggestions on what will help make our studio stay better are appreciated!

Some people even pack a few regular silverwear pieces, and especially a sharp knife (for cutting cheese, etc.) .

That would be pretty hard to do if you're flying. Just call housekeeping when you arrive, and they will bring you real silver ware and a sharp knife should you require that.
