My wife and I just finished our first ABD which was the Disneyland and SoCal Short Escape. We really enjoyed and I guess may have been bit by a bug. We are looking at possibly doing another in May of next year. Thinking either Italy/Switzerland or Italy only, any opinions on the two?

Thank you

It honestly depends on what you want to see. The scenery of the Italy/Switzerland trip is hard to beat. I keep trying to fit a trip to Zermatt into my Europe trips. But the history of the cities in the Italy trip is also amazing. Florence is my favorite city in Italy and easier to fit into a trip. So I guess my opinion is you can not go wrong on either trip. The logistics of the Italy trip are easier to replicate on your own the the Italy/Switzerland trip in my opinion. Enjoy making the decision.

We've done both the Viva Italia (Rome, Florence & Venice) and Alpine Magic (Stressa Italy, Zermatt and Lucern Switzerland) and really enjoyed both. Whichever you pick you will no doubt enjoy. Have you traveled to that part of the world before? If so, I'd go with the ABD that covers new ground.

I'd agree with @bamagoofy above that Zermatt was really special. The views of the Matterhorn are just spectacular.

No, we have never been to Europe before, and finally after years of education now have the time (sorta of, when is their ever enough time...) and funds to travel like we have always wanted. We are trying to squeeze in a few international trips before my wife wants our first child. Unfortunately we are not getting any younger.

Rome, etc, can be hot in the summer. If you're going in May, that might be better, and do Austria for another time of year.

Good point about the weather @aggiedog.
If you are going to do the Northern Italy/Switzerland trip then you would probably want to do it in the summer time. We went in late August (2016) and the weather was great.
