Italian charm bracelets.....

goofy4tink,

When I was putting mine on I took either the new link or the one I was linking it to on the bracelet and slide one of them open all the way. I then took the other and just slid it over enough to be able to hook the other one onto it. For Christmas I put 2 on mine and 2 on my daughters. I think the key is to have the one that you are using with the "hook" side open all the way before working on the one you are connecting it to. Hope this makes sense. There is suppose to be tool to use to, but I was able to do mine just fine. Sometimes they do fight back and slide closed, but it only takes a few tries to get them on. Not worth spending the extra money on to go to the jewelers.

lfontaine,

the cheap ones are really only $3. They are in the jewelry section in World of Disney. That is why I was in such a rush picking out DD's-they were in the same room. When I was there they were on one of the swirling stands closest to the register that is right between the 2 doorways. I do not remember seeing the cheaper version of letters, but they did have holiday charms when I was there just before Christmas. As far as I know they only have the more expensive charms with gold on them and the cheaper $3 version. I know others say they saw them in other stores in the parks, like the big shop in MK on main street and another one in MGM, but sorry cannot remember where. I had to just look when I was in DTD very quickly without DD catching me. Just want to say again if you didn't catch me saying before that the starter bracelet they have hangin with the cheap charms does not say it is stainless steel or have the Disney logo on back of it like the more expensive one. When I bought my bracelet I got 2 extra links along with my 2 charms and they were only $3-4 each with the Mickey etching on it. Not sure if you can get the blank ones at Disney, but those are more than likely at the jewelery counter and not with the cheap charms. I also do not think that they have ride themed ones, mostly just characters and Mickey icons. Also did not see any cheap dangles, just the more expensive ones. I opted not to get those for myself because I was afraid of catching it on something and loosing it. Sorry so winded but I hope I helped you alittle more.

There is a tool you can buy to link the bracelets but it really is not worth it. I can change and move charms without anything (just use the links that have something on them as leverage to open and hold them), but when I first got my bracelets, a pen cap worked wonders to keep a charm open. Paperclips and push pins also helped to open a link that I could not get.

I have basically 3 types of charms on my bracelet: the cheap Disney charms, some expensive Disney charms and then some that I had personalized with my initials, Buffalos, etc. I have no problems adding new links or replacing old ones.

And the Mickey charms with the birthstones are not the best to stand up to the wear and tear that people put on their bracelets. Both my friend and I went through 2 charms apiece in less than 3 months!

I got the Tinkerbell watch($75) charm bracelet and 4 double charms 3 with dangles for Christmas. I love it and the fact that each of my family members picked out a charm for it adds to sentimentality, but......I have the Lilo and Stich charm with the dangling Stitch and he has already broken once (Disney replaced it) and his little ears keep getting stuck on everything. So just be aware these can be a little fragile:(

I DID IT!!!! Thanks for the tip about the paper clip. Even using that my hands/fingers are a little crampy. But, my dd will be so surprised to see her bracelet actually in a circle with the charms on it!!!!!

Hey,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm thinking about starting an Italian charm bracelet for an upcoming trip but I'm confused as to the best way to start.
As far as the base bracelet goes -- has anyone seen the rubber base starter? As best as I can tell it looks like the slide bracelets (you know, with the rhinestone letters?). I've only seen it on one website. It's $20 though which seems to be a lot more expensive than the other starters.
Can anyone tell me the best way to go on a starter bracelet?
Also, how do you attach the charms? They're not soldered are they? Do you just pop them in and out??
If anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it! I'm a little overwhelmed by all of these choices!
Thanks!

hi pixiedust27,
You might check your local mall for a cart that sells the charm bracelets. Most of the local malls here in the twin cities have a cart that sells the basic braclets (about 16 links $18), the rubber base one you mentioned, and watches that you can add links to.

I would go with the standrad bracelet it is the most common one the links kinda clip on to one another...it's tricky to get them on (or at least it was for me) in the begining, but if you buy a charm at a store they will usually add the link to your bracelet. After awhile I was able to do it my self, but I also bought a little tool that works well (I actually bought it at WDW!)

Also be aware that depending on the size you may need, you may have to buy 2 starter bracelets.
My dd's wrist is not big at all, but the starter bracelet was a few links shy of fitting properly.
What we did was get one with the etched Mickey, one plain silver, and mixed them together. That plus one charm was $50.00 at the Contemporary.

If you were only a couple of links shy on size, you could have just bought a couple of charms instead of the second starter bracelet, right? Or am I missing something? My dd now has a bracelet that is completely charms, so she isn't using any of the links from her starter (though it's an excuse to start working on another :-)
