The state windstorm inspector came back out to re-inspect what our inspector found wrong with the roof -- they were able to fix some of the areas simply by adding another nail here or there, or moving a nail, but the roof part just above our garage the state inspector agreed needed to be replaced. So, they're going to replace it.
As for the beam without a lot of horizontal support -- the engineering plans call for it that way and it meets state code. The engineers the builder talked to said that beam doesn't *get* much horizontal weight, hence the need for only one horizontal support beam, and by adding any more it would change the dynamics of the roof and increase the potential for problems so we're good there, too.
I really like the responsiveness of this builder.
