Oh my gosh, you are seriously having bad luck this trip. How the heck can you mess up your job if you do it all day long (both the conceirge lady and at the bakery)?! But, the cake does look great!

I have NO idea what happened there.. it is soo frustrating because the most important 'events' on our trip were on friday and they were all ruined.. especially now the concert was cancelled..

Oh.....my.....goodness. I can't even imagine how you felt after dealing with all of that, one thing after the other. I heard something about Aerosmith cancelling their concerts recently (maybe b/c Steven Tyler fell or something??) but for some reason didn't put two and two together. Maybe it's best that it got cancelled---maybe now you can plan another surprise on your home turf and have it all work out this time.
On the upside (if there is one), the cake was beautiful! You should definitely post it on the Restaurant Board Cake Chatter thread. I'm glad it was tasty too, at least you got to enjoy something.

Hopefully the rest of the weekend starts to turn around. Looking forward to hearing more, and hopefully cheerier, things.

The cake was beautiful, I was planning on posting it on the Cake Chatter Thread's but I wanted to wait until i got it up in my planning journal. I had 7 different people tell me they couldn't make this cake... then finally I got a hold of a young lady at the Boardwalk...I love cake!!

It does start to turn around... I"m excited to finish this one up and start a PTR for "R & K: At the world, High Maintenance Style"

Oh goodness! I almost started crying with you!! That is horrible! You put a lot of time and thought into that and someone that was incompetant ruined it for you. Even though DBF said he was still surprised, it was not the way that you imagined and that's what stinks! I'm so sorry! I was also very upset about the concerts being cancelled! This is the second time DH and I have had Aerosmith tickets in the past few years and they have cancelled! I am beginning to think I should just give up on them!

That's exactly it, I put a lot of time and thought it friday and things that were out of our control rain, other people ruined it for us. Wow....the second time... geezz..

Don't be scared.. you'll have a blast at POP... it's still my favorite even though we dealt with really incompetant staff on this trip.

WOW! I can't believe it! All that effort! At one point I was expecting you saying that the colors were wrong, the flavor terrible and it started to melt on your way back to the hotel!!! At least the cake was perfect! I'm a HUGE Aerosmith fan too! So sad that at the end, it got canceled!!

I think if we wouldn't have taken a cab it would have def. melted because it was so hot and the journey home probably would have taken an hour... but I knew it would be exactly like the photo's i sent.. they do amazing work.

No, I haven't written to anyone at WDW but I did speak to a different manager at the boardwalk concerning the manager from the bakery... that is enough...

Oh no! I can't believe that CM ruined your surprise and then the manager laughed at you - that is crazy! You weren't kidding when you said you had a rough trip. I sincerely hope things get better from this point on.

I am so sorry to hear about all the mishaps with your trip! I'd would have had a meltdown, too! I love to surprise people and if the surprise is ruined -- what a huge letdown! I was thinking of you when I heard that Aerosmith had to cancel the rest of the tour. And your Gram looks wonderful in her new wig! Glad that it lifted her spirits!

I can't believe the treatment that you recieved. That is terrible. I would have asked to speak with that manager right away. I wonder how many times the guy at the bakery has done this and how many times it will happen int he future if his manager does not know it is happening. I am a firm believer that you have to let a manger know whent he service is bad or good. If no one tells them what is going on, most of the time they have no idea.
But on a good note, the cake looked fabulous! Even better than I pictured it! It is too bad that the concert got cancelled, but you have to remember that DBF was still suprised. Maybe not at the perfect moment...but still you did manage to keep it from him. I am sure that he still appreciated it just as much.

I did speak to a manager at the Boardwalk resort, she was really sweet. We spoke regarding the first manager's behaviour not about the surprise being ruined.

Thanks.. it was a bad day.. I'm glad i'm almost done posting about it. I"m really glad i got my money back.. it was close to 350 for both tickets.. I was really worried I wouldn't.

Hi there. I've been lurking in the background, reading, with interest, your TR.
First, I am sorry your Gram is so sick. I completely understand what you are going through, I had a similar experience with my Grandfather. We were very close (I lived with him for a few years) and it was, and still is, very emotional for me, as he passed away a year ago. The good thing is, at least, you are close enough to go and spend a lot of time with her.

I am also sorry in your experience in your first day! WOW, that just plain sucks, all that bad stuff (wanted to type something else, censored my self there...)

The funny thing is, as I am reading it, I could picture my wife and myself in your place, reacting the same way, down to the last tear! I am so sorry it went badly, but, like you said, its Disney, and at least the cake looked great!

Yes, Steven Tyler fell off a stage during a concert, and broke some stuff. Bad break, from what they said.

I'm sorry about stuff going so bad on your trip. Sometimes the only silver lining to all the bad things is what you learn from the experiences and how you are able to bounce back. I really admire the optimistic spin on the title of this thread. It is still Disney. As Lynn once said, that sometimes the magic doesn't come from the vacation itself, but from the person on the vacation. And I can just tell from this trip to everything with your Gram...you are definitely a person who has magic within. And your outlook from just the simple phrase "it's still DISNEY!" just inspires me so much. I haven't been having the easiest time with things in life lately, but you have been showing me that no matter what happens to a person, it only affects you as much as you let it. Thanks. Hey girl.. I just wanted to say im here!!! ive been MIA for omg a week or so now.. SOO much going on!! I had to post real quick before I go back and read/catch up.. but wow heres whats up:
-I was laid off my job BEST thing to happen too.. except for being unemployed and job searching.. its just omg I HATED my job and have been looking for a new job for 2 months anyways.. so i got a head start i should be starting somewhere within a week
-Had 3 interviews so far.. I really like the one thing-Cruise Consultant job.. I'd rather work tho for a BIG name like AAA but who knows.. i got that interview and i hav to come in to "shadow" one day...
-My boyfriend and I finalized all our dining plans for October .. i'm soo excited and as I mentioned to you I think... we are ALSO staying at POP century.. so hopefully all goes well we are excited..

and just craaaazyy busy and not on Disboards to often right now ahh it was fun though tonight I was making dining reservations for my parents and sibilings who are disney right now.. they did the Wonder/Land combo.. we are DVC members.. but its insanely busy down there they said....other than that im back to reading..

I just saw your thread and had to read it. I am so sorry about what happened. I can COMPLETELY relate to not liking the hair and make-up thing and it can totally ruin your time. I am mortified at the incident at the bakery too. I know you've said you just want to forget about it but you definitely should get a refund for your hair & make-up and for the cake. You are thoughtful not to want to hurt anyone's feelings but let's face it, your time is precious (especially on such a short visit!) and you are worth that time and money!

We finally got to look at our photos. Although it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the photographers, because we love their work just not our photos. I"m so devasted....

1. My hair is horrible. I never ever wear my hair curly.. so it's really hard to enjoy the photos. It doesn't feel like me!

I regret my choice in outfit now that i've seen it photographed.​

2. The rain truly ruined the photos to a point where they have stated"we're a little bummed we didn't get to take full advantage of the locations
and sunlight".

3. We look awkward in almost every photo, our positioning and facial expressions are just soo awkward. I guess were not photogenic.

4. We honestly, truly, only really like, not love, between 20 and 25 photos.

We have each showed some friends and family, they pretty much agree with our opinions regarding the photos and the 20-25 photos we like. Overall i'd say it was a bust.

On a personal level, I've lost 35 pounds but after looking at those photos I still feel really over weight... the closest people to me say i'm just being hard on myself...(which women tend to do) but that's how i feel and i'm allowed to have my feelings.

At this point, I'd love to do another shoot with them, I'd like to give it another go... because we truly love their photographic style... I dont know.. Dbf would rather take some new photos (once were engaged and once I lost more weight (my opinion)) here in Ottawa with our puppy stella... I dont know...

That is so disappointing that you do not like your photos. I'm glad that you feel like there are some that are good. You & your BF are both photogenic people....I'm sure all of the factors involved (hair/makeup, rain, stress, etc) just did not help the situation. At least you have gone through it once, and now when you do it again for your next round of pictures, you will know what you like & what you don't like.

Can't wait for your next update. I have been praying for your grams. Is she getting used to her wig?
