It makes me so sad...

..to see an otherwise intelligent, financially savvy person get so excited about a trip to WDW wherein they will jam their fam of five into an AS "All Small" room for 5 commando-filled days.

Makes me even sadder when same person notes that because she's saving SO much money on her WDW trip (as opposed to us "lavish DVC money-blowers"), her fam can "splurge" and go somewhere else REALLY nice that we "Disney addicts" can't... such as oh, say, HHI!

Somebody pass me a tissue....I'm getting all verklempt...

Just be glad that you are not that "financially savvy." :p

Is this another thread or someone you know?

It also points out how very different a "WDW" vacation can be. If you jam the family in a small room (especially off-site) and commando the parks in the middle of summer grabbing fast food when you can, I can see why some folks vow to never do it again.

On the other hand, a couple rents a DVC one-bedroom, visits the parks at their pace, plays some golf, has dinner at V&A then heads back "home" for a quiet evening and to rest up for tomorrow's tennis, spa treatments, evening at Epcot followed by partying at PI.

Two totally different vacations at "WDW". ;)

that's why they make chocolate & vanilla icecream. Different strokes for different folks. Would I want that type of trip? No. If it makes someone else happy to do it that way, good for them. Don't be sad, be happy for them that they are doing it how they like to do it. When I go on vacation, I "go on vacation".

THis is someone I know -- a coworker.

I didn't show my sad face to them, I put on my "You're doing Disney!" happy happy joy joy face. (After all, there's kids involved here...)

My sarcastic tone in this thread is because the person felt obliged to rationalize to me how much "smarter" they are than us DVC folks, when it's clear she hadn't the faintest clue what DVC was even about. Had she never commented on DVC, I might never have given her plans another thought. And it wasn't worth my trying to explain it all to her. I just smiled and went on.

I guess it's like Dr.Phil says... ya get it or ya don't.

that's the way to handle it. My wife came from a family like that, I came from the other end of the spectrum....she likes my side better, but it took her a little while to get used to it. she felt like a fish out of water for a while. We took her parents last year. They, too, are coming over to my side. If people haven't been exposed, they probably will never know.

Smile would have been my suggestion, too.

I had a co-worker who insisted that going to WDW was just an amusement park. He was blind to any other way of thinking. We can just be content that we all know better. ;)

That's the truth. Until these people experience staying at a DVC resort they all think we're nuts! But it's our money and we can spend it foolishly if we want to. ;)

When we went with some first timers in April, they insisted on hitting MK first thing on Monday, after checking in at 12:00. It was a nightmare!! I was pretty miserable and turned to my friend and said "If this is how it always was, I'd never come again". When it gets like that, it does feel more like and amusement park, lol!

Of course, I didn't really mind going "commando" style on my first couple of trips. Looking back, the sheer amount of "magic overload" blinded me to the crowds, the heat, etc. I think the more I go, the more I appreciate all the details, etc. and the more I can't really put up with crowds or 14 hour park days.

That makes DVC the perfect choice for us. I plan on spending quite a bit of time on this next trip just enjoying OKW and our 1-BR villa. I'm looking more forward to that than anything else!!:)
