It Looks Like the Death Numbers are Being Inflated

And as far as Florida goes they aren't including deaths of second home owners or snowbirds in their death statistics so there's a decent chance the numbers you see for Florida are being under reported. .
They in fact are in their total cases report. They just have an additional category for residents and non-resident positive cases.

I read that as State Medical Examiners are tracking all deaths but the publicly released number from the State Health Dept doesn't include non Residents.

Not sure where you are pulling your info from? I'm looking at the Florida DH website that list resident and non-resident cases and then gives the total cases.

It drives me nuts seeing so many trying to downplay this virus. My wife has it and is having a very hard time breathing. Its a very serious illness and to see is many downplay it is upsetting. Sorry to be harsh but this virus has affected me personally.

If someone dies from a heart attack and also tests positive for Covid, it's impossible to know if the Covid caused or contributed to the heart attack. Would that person have had a heart attack if they did not also have Covid? Who knows. I think that's why Covid is being add to things like death certificates.

Here’s a link about a sharp increase in calls about heart attacks in nyc. A lot of weird stuff happening right now.

So I wonder if that’s from
1. Decrease in (or lack of) available elective procedures such as internal pacemaker placements, elective stent placements, or stress tests so sick people got sicker and died, or
2. Covid-related cardiac disease causing death, or
3. Stress-related cardiac disease like Takotsubo directly related to quarantining people away from other humans.
We may never know.

From Tampa Bay Times on 4/11.

"The Florida Department of Health’s count of coronavirus deaths reached a grim milestone Friday, surpassing 400 and climbing to 419.

But at least 40 additional people who had died from the virus in Florida were missing from the state’s count, the Tampa Bay Times has learned.

Those deaths are reflected in another tally that’s being kept by the state’s medical examiners. On Friday, it stood at 461, 10 percent more than the health department’s announced number."

I'm an actual expert.
I think that something got lost in translation and someone in the grapevine between the doctor signing the death certificate, the person telling your son, your son, and then you - someone misunderstood something.
The numbers are inflated but not in the way you describe.
People who die of chronic illnesses (or any cause of death) who happen to also test positive for Covid are getting Covid added to their causes of death and that inflates the numbers. Covid in these cases is rarely listed as the main cause of death. If it is, that's an error and as noted above, it should be corrected with the state.
As someone who works regularly reading death certificates I can attest to the fact that people are NOT being told to change things dramatically the way you think. But listing Covid as contributing may be necessary.

Just curious as to how the information could have gotten so mixed up. Would someone that died from injuries in an accident be tested for Covid 19 for some reason or other?

Maybe with so many deaths at hospitals they are not really checking how a person died. Someone is just putting cause of death as covid-19 and moving on. Just like so many other jobs where they get so overwhelmed mistakes and errors happen. :confused3

Our son knows of two people whose death certificates said cause of death was Covid19, but one died in his home from a heart attack and the other was drunk and got into an auto accident and died from his injuries.
I second the shut this idiotic thread down motion.

Original poster I defy you to spend a day at my job with me. I’ll show you people all over the place suffocating even with high oxygen delivery. Then you can help me disconnect dead covid19 patients from the machines they were hooked up to. Then after lunch I’ll take you out to the parking lot to tour the 18 wheeler truck used to store the dead bodies. Then you can go home and discuss your day with your son.

They, like you or me or anyone, may have been tested and found positive before the accident. It’s also possible that in the investigation it was discovered that they had been having symptoms at the time of the accident. The ME may have then tested first Covid (or presumed them positive depending on the story). I can imagine that someone who was very sick (to the point of needing help oxygenating) may have been trying to drive (to the hospital for help or to the liquor store for their usual daily fifth of vodka) but lost consciousness and crashed.
Alcoholics can get Covid, too... and they’d make especially poor drivers.

Ok no need to be mean to the MI Grandma. Im pretty sure she’s just either been misinformed or confused. A little compassion goes a long way,

I hope your wife feels much better soon and that you are able to stay well yourself.

could be that the auto accident injuries weren't life threatening but when combined with underlying covid symptoms it resulted in death. same with a heart attack, someone with preexisting heart disease who might have survived a heart attack if his body wasn't compromised by covid.
