Looking at the schedule I just realized that the only day we can see the elec. parade & fantasmic is 9/28. So it looks like we're going to have to choose between the two. Any opinions would be great. We haven't seen either one before.

I did both in one night with no problem on two different nights the last week in August. I dont know the times but It was 8:00 for the parade and 9:30 for Fantasmic for us (if I remember right).
Anyway this is what we did. The parade was starting at Main Street so only about 10 - 15 min before it started We got a seat on the curb at the hub right at the point were the parade starts. We watched the parade and when the rope goes by ( the end of the parade) jump up and get right behind it!! Follow your way down Main Street untill you get to the roped off walkway that goes over to Fantasmic. Work your way over to the far side. People tend to take seats as they get to them. I got all the way over to behind the reserved viewing section RIGHT ON THE RAIL!! The area is tiered so no one was standing in our way. The view was awsome and the wait was'nt that bad.

Good Luck. Enjoy your trip!

The Electrical Parade in at California Adventures and NOT Disneyland park. It is still possible to see both if the Electrical parade is at 8:00 & Fantasmic is at 9:30, but you'll be cutting it close. You'll have to whatch the Electrical Parade from near the Hollywood Backlot enterance (this is where the parade starts) as soon as it's over dash over to Disneyland and hope on the train to New Orleans Square and try to find an area to view Fantasmic. It's usually mobbed and people stake out seats for Fantamic 2-4 hours before it starts so you won't get a perfect view, but you'll be able to see it.

I love both & wouldn't want to choose. If you choose Fantasmic! waiting for a spot will take a chunk of time out of your day. The Electrical Parade route is very long, so finding a spot at the last minute is no problem. If money is no object, you can do the Premium Viewing for Fantasmic. It's $47 for adults and $37 for kids and they may still availability for your date. The balacony viewing is $47 for adult or child but it always sales out.

Hope this helps!
Katherine

Thanks for the ideas to see both but its not going to work for that night. The Electric Parade is at 8:45 & fantasmic at 9:00.

I think a lot depends on what the make-up of your group is. I love fantasmic - but if I have my little ones with me I don't even try to do it - not because it's too intense - they enjoy the show - but because the staking out a spot and waiting is just too hard! With the parade you should be able to get there shortly before it starts and still be fine. Good Luck deciding - they're both great.

OOPPS! Sorry I missed the Elec. part. Big difference! Thats a tough choice. Our group of ten (Adults and Kids) made that choice one night. We went and watched the Elect parade (2nd time that trip) and then went into Disneyland to see the fireworks and Fantasmic (hadn't seen yet). We just made it in with the crowds of people doing the same thing to catch the fireworks. We worked our way over and everyone wanted to do anything BUT try to see Fantasmic. I was a little surprised with the groups plan. They just wanted to play! My personal choice would be the elect. parade!

While I love Fantasmic and it is indeed quite unique, there is something about the Electric Light Parade that makes it my very favorite Disney show ever. It is just exudes happiness! You are also a little more likely to have other opportunities to see Fantasmic (for example, if you go to WDW). Combine that with the greater ease of seeing ELP and the fact that it appeals more to children, I would recommend it. Even better, find a way to visit DLR or WDW again soon so you are able to experience both.

We've decided on ELP with thoughts that someday we'll get to WDW & see Fantasmic. Thanks for all the comments.:)

The ELP is special. That would be my choice as well.

Go see fantasmic, its really cool. The parade gets boaring but is also pretty cool.

"the parade thats electrical, it searves no real purpose it just takes up alot of juice, just to impress us."

The Disneyland Fantasmic! is so much better than the one at MGM Studios! The Peter Pan segment is wonderful, while the Pocahontas segment at WDW is less than spectacular. The riverboat segment at MGM doesn't come near the one at DL. My vote is for Fantasmic!
If you see an video of the DEP, you will have gotten the gyst of the whole thing. And I DO like the DEP, it's just not as much WOW as Fantasmic!
