It isn't Disney, but......

It's my "Fix" in between.

Spending a day at Knoebel's Grove in Elysburg PA. It's opening day for the season.

What do others do in between Disney and the Fort trips?

We go to Gulf Shores (the beaches on the Alabama Gulf Coast) and do the following:

- drink some Bud Light Lime.

- eat fresh seafood.

- walk the beach and listen to the waves crash (or lap, it depends).

- nap.

- listen to Sunny 105.7 easy beach music all afternoon and pay attention to the "Weather on the Tens" updates.

- watch the sun come up (or go down, depending on the orientation of your campsite).

- go shopping if we HAVE to go out to buy local delicacies like fresh cheese, local wines, or seafood to pack and take home.

Then we go to sleep and do it all over again the next day. It's rough duty but I will sign up and take one for the team. :beach:

PS - now that we will be empty nesters starting this fall, I hope to have several LONG weekends a year at the beach with a full week at least once a year. For me it's 4.5 hours each way and $45 a night. The Fort and Gulf State Park are why I bought my camper. :woohoo:

Ohh please let me know how you like it... We are just about an hour to two hours away and were thinking about trying Knoebels this year before our September trip!

We love it. But today the lines ARE CRAZY. Plus some of the bigger rides seem to be having issues. Normally not the case though.

We have said for two years now we would get up there and I am hoping that this year we will. Unfortunately today we are trying to fix the new found leak that we got in our slide out bed. :(:(:(:(

Hope you have a great time!

We usually take local camping trips. Last July we went to Wisconsin to visit friends. We froze our butts off. :) This year is probably gonna be a local trip.

Well the trip to Knoebel's (Yesterday) was interesting, to say the least. The crowd was extremely large. Wait times that rival Disney on crowded days. We did leave a little early but the wait to leave the parking lot was also about 40 minutes. Even people who go there every year for opening day have stated that the crowds are the worst they had ever seen. That's okay. We still had a good time. Today wouldn't be as good. It's raining and colder today.

We didn't stay there at the campground (we only live a little over an hour drive away) but have in the past. They only have electrical hook-ups there too (but have a dumping/fill station). We did, however, drive through on our way out. It wasn't very crowded but it's still early in the season. We have stayed there when the entire place is packed. They really do pack them in too.

I want to try and branch out a bit further with the TT (Well other than Local here and the Fort). I am thinking about Cedar Point in Ohio. It looks pretty interesting. About a 5-6 hour drive from us.

Paul, some of my Ohio relatives have taken their TT to Cedar Point. I think there is a campground there of some sort.

There is apparently a KOA there. I haven't stayed at any KOA's but have visited a few of them. I have to say that I have a mixed opinion about them (Some are definitely better then others.)

Cedar Point has their own campground on property, and there are others in the area as well.

Awesome! I am going to try and convince the DW to give it a shot.

We go to the outer part of Cape Cod and stay at adventure bound North Truro in July or near Lake Ontario in the fall to fish for salmon.

We like heading down to some of the local cg's here on the Eastern shore mostly in Va. The themed weekends tend to be a blast. Besides our dogs just love the attention little kids want to heap on them.

We have taken our Yellow Lab with us a couple of times to a local CG and Amusement park..... He goes nuts with all the attention. My biggest fear is at 120 pounds, he likes to (or rather used to like to) jump on people to play with them. Now he is older and has RA so that is not much of an issue (jumping that is) but now the RA keeps him from walking to far or too long. :(

Fort Wilderness is my favorite place to stay when camping but I have another place which I also call my favorite plac

My Grandfather bought this place in the early 60s for what would seem like a ridiculously low price now but at the time it was a lot of money to our family. We have 8 acres of waterfront at the north end of Long Lake , NY. With two cabins. To get there you have to take an 8 mile boat ride because there is no road access. It is a much different trip than our Fort Wilderness trips but in a good way. At the north end of the lake the noise typically consists of small waves lapping the shore and the occasional call of a loon. This is a very special place to me but so is Fort Wilderness.
